This headset is a good performer... but if you realy want to hear what it is capable of buy a small amp like those made by Microshar [...] and WOW suddenly you will hear things in recordings you never knew existed. The headset is a touch on the big side... I'm not a pin head,7 1/8" hat size, and I can't get a good snug fit because it does not adjust any smaller. But the sound at this price point is worth it. These headphones are wonderful. They are the best pair of headphones I have ever owned. I consider myself an audiophile. I have no electronic background but have purchased many high-end pieces of audio equipment over the past 30 years. I currently own several headphones including the AH-D2000 (I purchased these for my daughter) and the Ultimate Ears triple.fi10 earbuds to use when I travel. I am sure I would love the AH-D9000 but I felt the $600 difference was probably not justifiable. I was able to purchase these for $399. There is a small, but noticeable, sound quality difference between the 2000 and 5000 headphones that I felt the less than $200 difference between them was worth it. Bass is deeper without distortion. Treble notes are crisper. Midrange is fuller. Although I can listen to classical music, my preference is classic rock. Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall sound fantastic. Led Zeppelin is amazing. For those that have commented that these headphones

No need for me to write another long users opinion on these headphones. Just looking at the reviews of others before I purchased the HD-D5000's had me sold. You might also want to check out [...] this is a great place to get a wealth of knowledge on high end headphones and gear. I was shocked to find them here at Amazon and sold by Amazon to boot, at almost $200-300 cheaper than other on line retailers. After owning Sennheiser HD-595's for the past two years it was time to step it up a notch. And wow I couldn't be more pleased. There is absolutely no comparison what so ever in the two. I saw one review describing the base, well to me it sounds like a powered subwoofer built inside and the midrange and highs are absolutely perfect for my taste. I have never experienced headphones with such realistic sounds in my life; it is truly like you're in the studio or in concert hall while it is being recorded. I listen to all types of music from rap to classical and everything in between, and it

The sound from these Denon AH-D5000 headphones is extraordinary (even at their list of $900 instead of the current clearance price of $350 - you may not get a warranty at that price). I didn't like them much at first until I let them break in for about 200 hours. After break in, the recessed midrange came forward and the bass tightened up. The bass the Denon headphones put out is the equivalent of what you might get out of speakers with 12" woofers. The bass is not overpowering and is accurate. However, you had better be a bass lover. When listening to Diana Krall, it was as if I was right beside Ray Brown playing the acoustic bass with my head just a few feet from the soundhole. The highs are Angelic. They are detailed, revealing, and open, yet delicate at the same time. They produce some of the best piano and steel string guitar music I have heard. The midrange is another Denon forte. However, it is slightly recessed due to the relatively powerful bass. Yet, the mids are

These are absolutely wonderful headphones and my favorite of all the ones I've tried by far. They offer you a sound that is even better than open-air type headphones (great sound stage and separation etc), yet without any of the negatives of an open-air design like sound leakage and lack of isolation. Until now, such a headphone didn't exist because many closed ear headphones don't have such a good sound stage as these Denons. The bass on these headphones is amazingly great yet they don't sound muddy at all and the midrange and highs are all very pleasant. Listening to these headphones really feels like candy for the ears. These are also the most comfortable headphones ever. I find myself wearing them even when I'm not listening to something sometimes; they are that comfy! Further, these headphones look wonderful with the nice mahogany wood outer ear cups that match the sliver and black parts perfectly. Very classic yet modern design! They sound great plugged directly into my iPhone
