Samsung HL-T6187S 61 New Slim Depth LED Engine Widescreen DLP HDTV - 1080p - 10,000:1 Contrast Ratio
I got this TV back in July of '07. Before it I had a 65 inch Toshiba Rear Projection HDTV. I loved my older TV. But after seeing Fight Night on the Xbox 360 on someone else's new plasma, I knew that my TV was just not good enough anymore. In my opinion that is. So I started to look for a new TV and I really liked the DLP's. Very nice picture for not that much money...unlike Plasma or LCD. I was down to either buying a Samsung or a Mitsubishi. In the end I went with the Samsung because I've always liked them over Mitsubishi. When it arrived at the house (I ordered through Amazon), the delivery guys brought it in and asked if I wanted it opened and put anywhere. I declined since I hadn't bought my stand yet (which I promptly left and bought). It arrived with no faults, no scratches, and no dings. Great delivery.
Now I have two roommates. And one of them kept bugging me about me getting the new TV. "Why are you buying a new tv?", "You're TV looks just fine", "Is it really gonna be that

I had my eye on Samsung DLP TV's for over two years, but couldn't really justify spending nearly $3000 for an item that wasn't a necessity. But one day after just price shopping these TV's, I saw this one on sale for over $800 off the regular price so I finally bit the bullet and bought it and I have not been disappointed yet. I bought this TV to replace my nice but aging 53" Sony full screen I bought 5 years ago, and honestly after getting everything set up to the new TV, I don't know how a got along this long without it. First, right off the bat when turning this TV on for the first time and tunning to an HD channel the picture was CRYSTAL clear, in addition it showed full screen as opposed to the black bars I used to see on the top and bottom of my screen with the old TV. I had learned to get used to the black bars, but after turning this TV on for the first time, it was an entirely new experience. While my old TV did not look bad, it just wasn't able to produce the vibrant and

I purchased the HLT 6187 and the 5087 for my parents. This DLP is amazing and so is Amazon. If your on the fence to upgrade to HDTV, Samsung DLP and Amazon are the way to go if you dont need to "hang on the wall".Great pricing and quick delivery. No problems whatsoever! The delivery guys were extremly helpful to my parents , who are seniors and they moved some other tv's for them. All I can say is thank you Amazon.

I was very upset when my 4:3 62" Pioneer Big Screen just went out.. I really dislike the 16:9 ratio and since about 80% of tv still broadcasts in 4:3 I did not want to get a new tv. I researched and researched and finally decided on this tv, no bulbs to change and a picture that is perfect. Plus it has a setting that zooms the 4:3 signal so it fits the entire area of the 16:9 screen without the typical munchkin look.. I saw this tv at bestbuy on sale for $2799 plus tax, then I did a search online and found it here for $1929 total can't beat that. I have a 42" Bravia lcd in my bedroom and it is just too bright.. its a sony and I know everybody says they are the best thats why I bought it..but it makes everybody look like they are from OZ when Dorothy opens the door for the first time. The colors are too intense, I work on a computer screen all day and I don't want to watch one all night. Plasma was also out of the question since I love my xbox360. I know they are supposed to be immune

I've been reading all the reviews on here, and the comments over on the AVS Forums. It seems that a small percentage of people were having issues with this set, especially early builds. I just recieved mine as a replacement for an earlier "S" series DLP that had gone bad. My set arrived with a build date of 01/2008, and the latest 09/2007 firmware. It does not have any of the common issues such as "Green Push", "Halo effect", or "Poor Geometry". I'd say the picture is failry similar to my old lamp DLP, which is very good. All in all, the set is a very nice upgrade of my old set.

Originally, I had brought the Mits. 65" 734 from fry's and after a week I still didn't have my TV and they weren't even sure if I was going to get one the next week. All they had was open box 734. Who knows how long that bulb was used... It only has 2,000 to 3,000 hours of bulb life. That's $300 every other year to have the TV to work. So, I asked the salesman which other brand rear projection would they recommend and they pointed out the Samsung. Went home, did a little research and read a little review and poof I got the TV that night.
The TV is better at home than at the store.
The lighting in your living is darker, so the TV is very bright.
It is also smart too. IF I am watching cable and I turn on my DVD player, the TV automatically switches to DVD mode.
The angles from the TV for viewing is more than enough in my house.
The TV Remote is universal once you program your components 3 digital code.
It is not too Warm or Hot. This TV does not heat up like other HDTV.
61" is pretty

Sony has announced they are abandoning their rear projection business. Of course, they're famous for screwing-up, so I wouldn't put too much credence in that. I suspect that this segment of the market will shrink, mostly because thin flat-screens have become better and cheaper. But, if you have the space, this set gives you more bang for the buck than virtually anything out in consumer electronics fairyland. If you want a SUPERB picture of generous proportion...you have to take a look at this set. The LED technology fixes the two most likely sources of frustration with DLP technology, i.e., bulb replacement and color wheel failure. It is axiomatic that any moving part will eventually die. This set should last 60,000-80,000 viewing hours without a problem. This is my second 61" Samsung DLP (the ex got the last one in the divorce). This one is head & shoulders above the last in both picture quality and price.
Amazon has the deal. I ordered online. They gave themselves about a ten-day

Although I cannot thoroughly review this product after only owning it for two months, the purchasing experience I had through Vanns and Amazon was smooth and even after the 2007 holiday sales, I still believe I got a great deal. I haven't had much of an opportunity to use this monitor, but so far, its quality seems to be good. (I don't really gloat over TV.) I experience some ghosting on analog TV and DVDs but I cannot blame that on the quality of the monitor. My kids' X-box 360 in 1080p looks very crisp & clear. If anyone is worried about purchasing one and setting it up on their own, don't worry. Most stores will try to sell you a delivery & set up for $100 and up, but in reality, the unit is light, easy to set up and is plug & play, so there really is no set up; plug everything in and the unit recognizes the devices and you can start watching minutes after you turn it on. There is a question regarding the need to calibrate this monitor since there has been some talk about the

I'm not going to go into all the positive aspects of this TV since that's already been covered by countless other reviewers. This review is to explain my experience with the 'Halo Effect' I purchased this TV in November with some knowledge of this problem, but I couldn't beat the price as compared to other retail outlets. I noticed that purple spots would appear on the screen when there were dark images displayed. I called Samsung first, not Amazon and the Samsung customer service was well aware of the problem. It took a few weeks for a replacement part to come but it was an easy fix.
It turns out that TV's that were manufactured before November had a silver ring installed which should've been black. That's all the 'Halo Effect' really is. The technician installed the black ring today and the problem is gone.
He did tell me that this model is now being manufactured with the black ring so new buyers shouldn't have this problem. But for those who purchased this model last

I am an electronics enigneer and I have spent some time researching my first HDTV purchase. I have looked at scores of different HDTVs and studied specs. After receiving the Samsung HLT6187AX I would say that this is the best HD picture I have ever seen on any brand at any size. Setup and operation was extremely simple and straight forward, and the price was remarkably low compared to similar sets. The Amazom free shipping was ahead of schedule and very professional.

This TV worked great for almost 6 weeks, great picture, the HD was wonderful. Then, the trouble started. The TV kept shutting down. I called for repair immediately, the repairman had to make 3 visits, which took 3 weeks, and finally he was able to repair the TV, unfortunately for me the repair lasted 3 days. Called Samsung again, they refuse to replace the TV, they say I have to "give them a chance" to fix it. I said that I thought 3 repair visits and 3 weeks was chance enough. They don't agree. Amazon refuses to even contact Samsung on my behalf because it is 2 weeks over Amazon's 30 day return policy. All I asked was that they help me out a little and ask Samsung to hurry the repair or replace this stupid piece of junk. After countless calls to Samsung, as of this writing the TV is still not repaired, they refuse to replace it, I'm paying for HD service that I don't have a TV to receive it on, and it has been over a month since this TV has worked. I asked Samsung to just give me my money

My friend owns a 61" Samsung w/o the LED technology and was completely satisfied, so I decided to do more research on this model. Although this LED technology was new (at least to me), I knew that LED was extremely reliable and long-lasting unlike the traditional DLP lamps. The replacement of lamps on the traditional DLP's kept me away from buying one since one of my friends had to replace his in less than a year. I was happy with the delivery of my set through Amazon's contracted delivery service. The exterior is attractive and stylish with it's LED accent light (which you can turn off or on when not in use if it bothers you). The picture quality, brightness levels, and contrast were exactly what I had hoped for when combined with my blu-ray player (haven't had HD service hooked up yet). The detail and sharpness of both still and in-motion imagery was excellent. Replicates the movie theater experience (when combined with surround sound). Works well with video games too. Take a look at

I bought a 50" Samsung DLP with the color wheel, last year and have been satisfied withe it overall, but there's always that bit of rainbow effect under certain conditions, and the noise from the wheel and fan can be a bit annoying. This new one, the 61" LED light engine HLT-6187S improves on everything except brightness. I'm not sure if that's due to a larger screen size, or the light source, but it's adequate in all but a fully sunny room. The light engine does emit a buzzing sound, audible across the room when the screen displays any image but total black, but that buzz will be drowned out by normal audio levels, so dont worry about that.Sharpness and color seem limited more by the source quality than any deficiency in the TV. Comcast cable employs compression which can detract from the appearance of moving images. Playback of Blu ray disks, if mastered well is nothing short of breath taking.
Color controls on this model seem endless, with some controls making imperceptible

Won't bore you with bullet points of the features except to say that the blacks truly are outstanding, TV fires up quickly, and menu is very intuitive. A monkey could program this TV. Seriously.LED: The advantages of LED technology instead of the old bulb and color wheel is a no brainer. An outstanding picture with a long lasting, dependable light source helped make my decision.
DELIVERY: Eagle phoned and worked with me to find a suitable delivery time. I helped the delivery guy bring it in. It's light enough for one person, but a little unwieldy due to size. Per the Eagle delivery man, they can plug it in, but are not allowed to hook up your cable box, etc. But it takes 5 seconds with an HDMI cable. Hit the source button on the remote, it finds the cable box and you're watching television in High Def.
VALUE: This was an exceptional value at the price I paid. The price will likely continue to drop (as technology usually does) but oddly, the price has crept up slightly since I

Beautiful Picture! I had an 52" DLP, the LG 52SX4D for 3 years & had to replace the bulb once, with no problems other than that. My new 61" Samsung HLT6187S with the LED light engine arrived 1 week ago (I ordered this about 8:30 PM on Friday, 10/19/07 & received it Tuesday, 10/23/07...what great service...WOW!) & it is fantastic! The picture is far superior to the LG plus the blacks are actually black instead of dark gray; must be the 10,000-1 contrast ratio. Despite what some reviews had said about a bright spot in the center & some dead pixels, I took a chance. Were they ever wrong. It's an amazing picture, with no bright spot I can see & absolutely no dead pixels! Let's see.... 61" TV, great picture, no bulbs or color wheels to go bad and under $1900.00, including delivery & no tax? It's a no brainer---get the Samsung from Amazon!

I have been contemplating purchasing a new, large screen TV for a couple years but was unsure of the best choice of technology, brand and retailer. It seems each technology has unique advantages and disadvantages however, it became very clear that DLP had a huge price advantage. The drawbacks were limited side viewing angle, depth of the box itself, Bulb Life and the 'Rainbow Effect' of the color wheel. I found the side viewing angles to be more than adequate for my application, and Samsung's new LED light did away with the color wheel and replacement bulb costs. And the depth of this new model is very reasonable at roughly 14".
I spent quite a few hours in stores viewing different models but it is hard to tell much in stores because they usually run high definition video loops that are designed to compliment the TV and do not give you any idea what you will get when you hook it up at home. With that said, the new HLT6187s (all the 87s models) seemed to be excellent and the best bargain

First and foremost a TV must produce crisp, colorful, flicker- and artifact- free images. The HLT6187s passes this basic requirement with flying colors. The richness of color and sharp, clear resolution provided by the DLP chip technology make this set one of the most stunning performers I've ever seen, at *any* price point. The relative affordability is an added bonus, giving you the opportunity to have a large screen experience at a small-screen price versus flat panel display technologies.Looking a step deeper, this TV is packed with innovative technology that should really make a difference. First, the new LED light engine promises the elimination of the DLP "rainbow effect" that some people (myself included) can occasionally see. At the same time, it provides a reliable light source that should last the life of the set without requiring lamp replacement or service. Finally, it draws less energy to run the LEDs, saving electricity and reducing heat output. This also means silent

This big screen LED is great if you have a big room and are viewing from a distance of 20' or more. The big advantage to this big screen is the LED will last the life of the set. (no expensive bulb replacement in a year or so. If your viewing space is less than 20' I would suggest that you purchase the 46" Samsung LCD for around the same price with a much better picture quality.I have both HDTVs and love them both. The 61" I watch from my bed at about 30' on the other side of the room. Guide text is large and easy to read and has a great picture form that distance. The 46" I watch in my den from 12' and the picture is great.

I have to concur with all the other reviewers. I got this TV in May and have loved it ever since. The delivery was on time as scheduled and Eagle was extremely friendly. I suppose like any company you have good people and bad people who do the delivery. These people were great. People come over and rave about the picture quality. The fact that you don't have to replace the bulb, makes the fact that this TV is more expensive than last year's model a no brainer to purchase. Also, all the settings you create for each input are saved after a power outage and are also set per output instead of for the entire TV. They really seem to have gotten it right with this TV. It also seems just as bright as the old model, so it doesn't seem the LED technology that is used has lessened the quality of this TV. Infact it only increased the value. It also has 3 HDMI inputs, which is really nice if you don't have a receiver that does HDMI switching. I already have a really good one that I purchased

I've owned this TV for about three months now and I am extremely happy with my purchase. I spent a lot of time researching different HD options, including LCD, Plasma, and DLP and this unit was the winner. There are plenty of websites to help you decide which HD option is right for you in terms of LCD, Plasma, and DLP so I'll just stick to DLP comparison. One of the first things you should know about this model is that it *DOES NOT REQUIRE BULB REPLACEMENT* It has a special LED instead of a bulb- this is really important because a regular complaint against "normal" DLP TVs is that a bulb would need to be changed every couple of years. At a couple hundred bucks per bulb, there's some cost savings, not to mention the hassle.
Second, since another knock against DLP is the amount of space they take up, you should know that this is the "slim" version, which means it takes up less space front to back. It will fit easily into most cabinets or cubby holes. It's also pretty lightweight for

1st off saved a ton of money buying through Amazon, the white glove service was excellent. Eagle called the day before set up a time, the guys arrived, brought the unit in, unboxed it, let me make sure that the unit was operational, placed it in the location that I had picked out. These guys were very polite and efficient. The unit itself is awsome, great picture, easy to operate. Once I found out that there are different modes for the picture, I can set up the screen for a bright, dark or movie environment.Sound is OK, but I will be getting a HTIB. Do not believe that you can go wrong with this unit, especially with LEDs as the light source.

I am not a techno-genius, but we absolutely love this T.V. We waited and waited; wanted HDTV, 1080P, but wanted bigger than the 52" LCD flat panel we were looking at, which cost $1400 more than this!! My brother talked me into this, once they changed the format to LED, and are we glad!! There is some glare, as our room is bright, but it's not bad, and when we get some solar screens (which we were getting for our french doors anyway), that will help. Everyone who visits us is blown away by the picture on this. We have the Toshiba HD-DVD 1080p and watching Planet Earth in HD on this T.V. is awe-insiring. You can see snow flakes on the penguins, ripples in the water; we watched a movie in HD the other night, and you can actually see the pores on the people's faces!! We almost bought the Sony but since this Samsung is 14" vs. 21" we went with this. The size, the picture, the sleek look ..... it is fantastic.0

I've had this TV for a little over a week and so far I am very impressed with it. The difference from my older 60" Hitachi rear projection and this is night and day. I saved approximately $800 buying from Amazon over my local retailers and the white glove service was excellent as well. They unpacked it and put it into position for me and took away the packaging so I wouldn't have to deal with it. I'm not sure if Best Buy is trying to push the Plasma and LCD's for the premium price, but in our store the picture quality for these TV's in the showroom looks dismal in comparison. It's just not so when you see a good quality HD signal on this. I purchased a Samsung upconverting DVD player as well to tide me over until the HD/Blu Ray format war is over. I'm not sure how much better the picture could be but I guess I'll see in time. The only complaint I have with this TV is the remote, you seem to have to have it pointing directly at it in the right location to have it work. I have the
