I bought this friction mount for my Nuvi 350, and used both on a recent driving vacation. Both worked even better than expected!
Amazon's listings are a little confusing--If you have a Nuvi, don't buy the one that says "for Garmin GPS". Get this one instead. With this one, you don't need to purchase anything else, just use the little bracket that comes with the Nuvi unit. (Put the bracket onto the mount without the GPS in it--it takes some pressure or a little twisting to get the bracket to snap onto the ball of the mount. But once it's on, you won't need to take the bracket off the mount. The GPS snaps into and out of the bracket easily--the bracket and mount stay together as one piece.)
The literature with the GPS unit said that the dash mount adhesive is hard to remove, so I didn't want that on my car's dash. Some reviews said the windshield mount could melt to the glass and I didn't want that, either. Also, some say that thieves will break into your car even if they can only

My previous GPS mount broke as it had hands that held the unit in place. That only lasted about 15 uses. This ones is holding up well. Unit can be angled however the driver wants and has a good weight so it doesn't slide around.

Bought this for a new Garmin 265W. Already have a similar one for a Garmin 760. Make sure it's appropriate for your model; there are different ways to connect power source. Both models work great on both Chevy Van and Toyota Minivan dash. No sliding around. Easily adjustable for easy viewing. Easy to put whole unit on the floor so it's out of sight.

This mount speeds the transfer of your GPS from car to car without requiring you to buy additional window mounts. It is especially handy when picking up a rental car and getting on the road in a hurry. It also increases visibility through the windshield when driving and reduces the potential for a break in because there is no mount visible when the unit is removed from the car.

This dashboard gps mount was bought on sale and was a good bargain.
Although it is not attractive it does stay in place on the dashboard and serves the purpose very well. I would recommend it.

I bought this mount for my husband to replace one that he has had for many years. He uses his GPS at least 2 weeks out of each month while traveling on business and his old mount had become a bit "shiney" on the bottom and was prone to slipping on the dash. The price is worth it for the up to 5 years of service we get out of it.

I bought this to replace a windshield mounted unit that the suction cup broke. This unit sets the Nuvi in a better location for sight and will not break.

Bought for my GPS. Works much better than supplied mount that came with GPS. Doesn't move around on dash at all. Would definitely buy again, especially since I got it on sale!!

Every GPS should come with one of these. Here is why it is the best way to mount a GPS:
1. Easy to assemble and remove before and after trips, respectively
2. No risk of any suction cup falling off and damaging your GPS
3. No sticky adhesive on your dashboard
4. Stays put like a champ, even when driving aggressively with quick turns, hard braking, etc.
There really isn't anything bad about this mount, except for the fact that it is sold separately from the GPS. I think that every GPS should be sold included with one of these.

This thing actually works. Trust me I was skeptical at first, very skeptical! But since it was on sale, and available for stroe pick up I figured I didn't have much to lose. This holder is wonderful. It stays in place even in turns and during acceleration. Best of all, no more ugly ring marks on the windows and it is easy to take off the dash and store unser the seat. No tell tale sign of having a GPS in the car.

It was so easy to use. So much better than every suction cup I've ever used. Plus I got it for $20, so this was by far a great deal. Thanks to Garmin for this great idea!

it works great, easy to use. What disappoints me only is it's a little bit huge, would have been good if it can be folded over. Other than that, it's a good product, didn't have any problem so far.

The device was very easy to set-up and is easy to use. The online price is a deal compared to purchasing it in the store. The cord for the 120V is long which is good because you do not have to worry about the location of the cord. This device simplifies using your GPS because you do not have to constantly clip and unclip your device every time you use it. This device allows you to simply remove it from your dashboard, in tact, to a theft-free location. I cannot not say much about the quality since I have only had the device for about a month, but it seems to be pretty sturdy.

Great substitute to the suction cup mount. No more worries about when the suction is going to tear. Easy to throw on any dash. Disconnects from the base to hide when out of the car. Highly recommend it to those that may flip flop from vehicle to vehicle.

Got this to avoid a window mount for our GPS. On a Prius the window really slopes and makes the placement difficult. With the Friction Mount just plop it on top of the center display and you are done. When leaving the car slip it under the front seat and walk off. Great!!!

I use my GPS in 3 cars plus occasional rentals. The transfer of the suction cup mount was always problematic in cold weather. This is the best solution I have found and there is no slippage or sliding what so ever. The downside is the size but it still stores in the arm rest and for travel the "neck" of the mount is removable so it can be broken down and put in a brief case.

I didn't buy this mount until it was on sale for I felt $40 was a little high. I am sure glad I bought it. Like it a lot better than the supplied window mount. Also, there is no telltale window ring, so it doesn't give away that you have a gps at a glance. I place it on my messy console with a dark hat over it & it becomes hard to notice through the tinted windows. With the way things are GPSs are a hot item. Bought a 2nd one for my son's. Very stable on the dash, actually better than the window mount!

If you are looking for a replacement for your GPS window mount this is it. Set up in less than a 1 min. My wife hates to stick any on her window, because it leaves marks. I placed her GPS on this mount and it fits prefect on her dash. Price was right and my wife loves it. What more can you ask for. :)

Does what it is supposed to do. Nice. After use it can be put in glove box or taken with you. Nothing left in vehicle to indicate that you have a GPS.

This is an excellent product. It sits right where you put it and it never moves - no matter how sharp a turn you make or if you have to stop quickly. It remains where you put it. Its fully adjustable and it provides you a range of angles for viewing comfort. I bought 2 for the 2 Garmins I purcahsed.

I bought this to go with my new gps. it has worked perfectly on every dash i've put it. absolutely no slips. it has adjustable features so you can tilt it anyway that suits you. unlike the windshield mount, it doesn't block driver's view nor advertise to thieves that you might have a gps hiding under the seat. i toss it in my glove box. this is a no brainer - get it.

I use this to place the GPS on the dash board. It is pretty easy to attach-detach. It is light and it isn't very large so it is very portable. It really grips the surface of the dash board and doesn't move around at all.

I got this mount to go with my Nuvi 255W. The windshield mount that it came with fell off twice in the month I've had it so I knew I needed something else. I got this AMAZING mount with a best buy giftcard online christmas day and it was half off. I used store pick up and got it the day after Christmas and I could not be more satisfied. It sits like it's super-glued to the dash, but the great thing is all you have to do is set it there. You don't have to use anything to attach it and there's nothing you have to leave in your car that would make your car a target to a thief. It also makes moving from one vehicle to another a breeze, so much better than messing with the suction cup. I love that it's so easy to remove the whole thing when I'm at home. When I'm out and have to leave my car unattended, the arm unlocks and slides off the base so I can stick the mount underneath my seat and the GPS in the console next to my seat. I bought this friction mount because we were going to rent a car in Minnesota, where the usual windshield mount is illegal. I found this new mount so easy to use and so stable that I no longer use the windshield mount, even at home. This one is easier to take off and put on and doesn't leave a tell-tale ring on the windshield for thieves to target.

No tell-tale marks on window for thieves to see or fussing with suction cups. Hides under seat, attractive, multi directional and will not slip even in unexpected fast stops or turns. Great addition to protecting your GPS investment.

This product is a no-brainer. It mounts my GPS on the dash and does not slip. It is not permanent so I can hide it (and my GPS) when not in use. It's amazing that this simple product just simply works.

I wanted a portable mount so I could remove it from my car easily. This mount is fantastic for that. It stays in place for the most part. Only once did it slide off my dash during my last trip (but I think that was mostly user error...placed way too close to the slope.) I also like that I was able to set it on the dash but then when I was tired of it up there, I placed it down near the gear shift. Not being stuck in one place all the time was really nice. When I stopped somewhere I could easily pop it into my center console.

This is nearly the perfect GPS mount. The beanbag base is much heavier than I expected, and that, combined with the non-slip bottom, means this thing never moves, even in hard acceleration, braking, or sharp turns. The GPS stays securely on the arm and doesn't wiggle or shake .
The only real drawback is the appearance. It's large and bulbous. It actually doesn't look too bad in a car with grey or black interior, but I can imagine it really sticking out in a car with a lighter colored interior.

I was hesitant to spend around $40 for a GPS mount for my new Garmin Nuvi 255W. But I don't like the windshield mounts as they block your view and never seem to stay secure.
This device works as advertised and then some........tried it in two different vehicles both with a curved dash and it stays put. No movement at all. Very easily to click the mount in and out of the base or swivel it to desired angle.
It's pretty ugly but when it works this good I can get over it.

For some reason I thought this was going to be big and bulky, but it's quite small, which is good because it's easy to put anywhere on the dash (out of the way of the passenger side airbag of course). I popped the charger off the original window suction cup thing and popped it on this gadget, no problem. I used to try to balance my Nuvi in my cup holder. It's so nice to have it up at my line of sight. It's got a sticky vinyl underside that grips the dash so it can't go anywher. Incredibly fast shipping. And the price was great besides!

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 770 and wasn't fond of mounting it on the windshield.. it just seemed like too many things could go wrong, so I checked into this dash mount and picked it up on sale and it's perfect. There's no suction anything so you don't have to worry about your GPS flying off or anything.
You just attach the GPS like normal to the mount arm and the arm slides in to the mount and you can turn it 360 degrees and you can lock it in place so it doesn't move. We've been using it for a few months not and it hasn't moved an inch. It looks a bit clunky, but that really isn't an issue. I love it and would recommend using this instead of a window mount or any kind of suction mount.

When I bought this mount 6 months ago, the user reviews gave the impression it is a flawless accessory. I could not agree more. After months of use, on my car and other cars, I still find myself smiling and thanking Garmin for this wonderful device.

I purchased this because I didn't want to leave suction cup marks on my windshield. I was skeptical of this working because my dash has a radius in it and it is always Armor-Alled. This bean bag stayed in place and took the bumps, sharp turns like a champ. If your looking for an alternative to the suction cup mount this is the product to buy.

Great for putting your nuvi closer to the driver. Pretty stable, doesn't move very much. Be careful - Works best as long as your dashboard is pretty flat.

This is just what I needed for my GPS. I didn't want to use the suction cup for the windshield or the sticky thing for the dashboard because the sticky stuff never does come off. This works great! My GPS just snaps in when I need it. Thanks

I was a little skeptical to purchase this but so glad I finally decided to. It stays put wherever you place it, whether on the dash or console, and never slides or budges from it's position. The versatility is everything I hoped for as I can just lift it from one auto to another, and into the house by the computer, with the greatest of ease. I couldn't recommend a product more highly than this one.

I did not like the window mount that came with our GPS because it would fall down at the most inconvenient times nearly causing accidents! I also was not a fan of permanently sticking the GPS to my dash board so this portable mount has been the perfect solution! I just clicked the GPS to the stand and placed it on my dash and it has not budged even in turns. I also like that the mount is small enough that when I'm not using the GPS I can conveniently hide the whole set-up under my seat. It is a wonderful product and I'd highly recommend it :+)

I bought the other garmin friction mount first and it sucked. It did not form to my dash in either the trailblazer or uplander. I immediately took it back and purchased this. ( even three dollars cheaper!) I put it on my dash and took some hard corners, this thing doesn't move! I am glad I bought it.

Easily set up the little beanbag-like Garmin GPS mount on your dashboard, and you'll never see a slip or a slide. It holds onto the dash like it was super glued on, but it can be removed in a second. Just the thing if you don't want a permanent attachment cemented to the top of the dash. Jam on the brakes or screech around a corner -- the little friction mount remains right where you originally put it.

I bought this Garmin friction dashboard mount for my Nuvi last year, and it works outstanding. Very grippy and it's flexible enough to fit a variety of irregular surfaces. I rent cars all the time while traveling on business, and this dash mount works perfectly in all the rental cars I've been in -- probably 10 different car models. It is somewhat heavy by design (uses metal BBs as ballast). But it's worth it for the peace of mind to know your $400 GPS won't go flying off the dash while making a sudden turn or stop (which I do often when driving in strange cities). The mount can be disassembled for easier packing in your suitcase. This one's a no-brainer!

The biggest concern I had about this mount was how well it would stay in place on my dashboard. I was tired of the windshield mount falling off after a couple of days in the heat. I can tell you this mount is the greatest. I happened to have it on my dash board during a high speed pursuit. This involved breaking from 60 + miles per hour down to about 10 mph and making hard 90 degree turns. It also involved abrupt stops and acceleration. This thing never moved. If anyone has any doubts about this thing staying put on your dash, put them to rest. If it didn't move under these conditions, it won't move under any normal situation.

When I first purchased my Garmin GPS, I attempted to use the suction cup holder that the unit came with, but after one day, it fell off of the windshield and I couldn't make it stay after that. I loved the GPS, but had no way to use it, so I purchased the "sandbag" holder. It works perfectly, holding the GPS unit in place, no matter what the road conditions are. I drive a 3/4 ton truck, and the ride is rough. The GPS stays solidly in one place. I can pick it up and take it with me to use in another vehicle, and it is easily moved off of the dash to hide the unit when I don't want it to be seen when the truck is parked.

The design of this mount allows me to place it on the dash, or at the bottom of my radio stack (just in front of the shifter--my favorite location). The other mount that Garmin sold at the time (the big round donut) didn't allow me to do that, so this was the best choice.
I liked it so well I've now bought a second one for my new nuvi GPS.
As other folks have mentioned, it is a little pricey, but I didn't mind. Any other (generic) mount that I found didn't have the flaps, so I waited to catch the second one on sale.

This mount was far better than the window or dash mounts, because seriously how long does a dash and/or window mount stay up until they fall? Get this mount and never worry. Price sucks though.

This mount does not move at all. I have made sharp turns and performed high acceleration trying to get this mount to budge and it hasn’t moved from where I placed it. Definitely a excellent alternative to the window mount. Only draw back is the price.

If you don't like the idea of a suction cup on your windshield or if you live in a state like CA or MN where they do not allow a GPS to be attached to the windshield, this is a great replacement! I got it because I have a large dashboard and the windshield is kind of far away from me, so I wanted my GPS to be closer. It doesn't slip or move at all, even when turning!! A MUST have!

I bought this to use with my Garmin Nuvi and I am thrilled with it. I knew the law in California that you can't put the GPS on your windshield, so I wanted an accessory to avoid that. I found this at BestBuy.com and didn't think it was very expensive and it looked sturdy, so I bought it. I am pleased with the durable construction. It sits perfectly on my dashboard and you can rotate it to just the angle you want. I never go anywhere without my Garmin Nuvi or my Garmin Portable Auto Friction Mount.

This is a great device that does not slip at all on the dash, quick corners or speed changes does not cause it to slip and easily moved when out of vehicle. Easily adjusted, a little awkward to remove GPS, needs both hands! The great device is a ridiculously over priced for the unit though.

The device presents a safe way of having GPS device on dashboard when travelling and then easy to remove it. I used to have the GPS device sitting on my console. I have suggested this mounting device to all my friends.

I hated the window mount, and mine broke. This mount sits within reach of me, so if I get a phone call I can answer easily. It doesn't move at all. No more rings on my windshield to worry about it. So glad I bought this!

What a great product, never slips on any dash surface. Leaves no marks and can easily be switched from vehicle to vehicle.
It can allow unit to wiggle a little when typing in address's.
It is a bit pricey but I would purchase again in a heartbeat.

i purchased this holder for my garmin nuvi.... it works perfect, plus right before i got this, i heard on the news that there were a whole bunch of people stealing gps systems from cars, i know what your thinking just take the suction cup and gps inside at night, thats what i thought at first, but they also look for the marks on your windsheild that the suction cup has made, i dont know ablut you but gps in my car or not, i dont want any guy breaking in my car windows just to find no gps and i have to talk to the insurence agent..... over all good buy..... WORTH THE MONEY....

I have a large SUV with an ample amount of dash board space and the mount was a perfect fit for my vehicle. I didn't like the suction cup mount and this purchase allowed me the flexibility to place my GPS on the left of the dash instead of the middle eliminating a potential blind spot. For large SUV's its an ideal product.

I bought this Garmin Portable Auto Friction Mount along with my Nuvi 350 about 3 weeks ago and they both have worked great so far. I recently took a trip from Pittsburgh to Chicago and this mount didn't move at all. It stayed in it's place for the whole trip unless I took it down.

I also love the fact that I don't have to mount my GPS to the windshield and leave that nasty ring on it. It's also easy after the trip or during to take your mount off and stick it in your glove compartment for safe keeping.

I didn't hesitate to buy this Garmin Portable Friction Mount the first time I saw it in your ad. First of all, my Honda Odyssey and my Garmin Nuvi 350 are my best investments so I have to take care of them the best way I can. Using this garmin portable friction mount means "No sticky marks on windshield and no dropping of Nuvi. Great invention.

The friction mount is easy too use. It stays securely in place, unlike the window mount. The gps unit is held securely on a swivel base. The only slight negative is the price.

I bought this because it is against the law in Ca to use the windshield mount. Now I know that I would never want to use the windshield mount. This product can be moved from car to car, won't slide anywhere, and is easy to be seen by driver and passenger. If it is a hot ride, I put in on the seat next to me if there is no passenger, to keep it out of the sun. And no ugly sticky marks on the windshield to clue in a thief. I hide the mount and take the Garmin with me when I leave the car.

I bought this because I traded in my car and decided I would rather not have to use super glue to hold the original mount in my new car. I was hesitant to purchase this because the price was a little high for me, however I use my GPS for work almost every day and I feel it is well worth it! It hasn't moved around for me at all and it is sturdy and doesn't look bad sitting on my dash. The thing I probably like best it this mount makes it extremely easy to transfer to different vehicles without dealing with the piece of junk mount that came with the unit. It is great and I love my Garmin GPS!

Don't know what I am missing here. Read the reviews and felt confident purchasing for a Nuvi 660.
I admit it, it does not move at all, but the GPS keeps sliding out. Without instructions, I "assume" it just rested on the arm provided. Smooth housing on the GPS and nylon on the bean bag, there is no way for it to stay put when turning corners.
Looks like I am returning it.

Love It!! I had the one that stuck to the window and it kept falling off.. Exply in the cold weather or when the windows would fog up..The bean bag nvr moves.. Even with my bad driving :)

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 360. I was a bit hesitate to buy this because of the price and not sure if it works well. Luckily it turned out wonderful. It does not slide at all no matter how fast a turn I made. Also, it's easy to install and stow away. With its outstanding performance, I feel better now for the money I paid. However, I still think it should come with the GPS. Who would want to use the dashboard mount and leave a permanent sticker mark anyway?

bought this for the garmin 660 the product works great doesnt slide around in the car at all. its alot more portable than the windshield mount. i bought it because when i drive to cali i cant have anything ont he windshield so i needed something for the dash.
i also bought it so that i could have this mount in one car and the windshield mount in my other car that way all i have to do is take the garmin out and nothing else.
well thats the con about it. it doesnt actually come with the mount to mount the garmin you need to take that mount off of your windshield mount makeing the windshield mount no longer usable. although it is still easier to transfer this over to another car then haveing to unhook the windshield mount.
all in all great product serves its purpose.

well thats the con about it. it doesnt actually come with the mount to mount the garmin you need to take that mount off of your windshield mount makeing the windshield mount no longer usable. although it is still easier to transfer this over to another car then haveing to unhook the windshield mount.
all in all great product serves its purpose.

is very practical for people whom do not want to install the gps unit permanently on the vehicle or who want to have the unit all the time fast removed and located into a different one.

Had the suction cup model for my Garmin but in extreme cold or extreme heat it falls off. My wife bought this one for me as a Christmas gift and I have been presently surprised! I have been wanting one, but really didn't expect it to work this good. We have used it since a trip on Christmas day and it has yet to slide off, or for that matter, slide at all! I love it, would recommend to anyone.

I bought this mount after seeing it in action in a rental car (with rented GPS).
I had been using a windshield suction-mount arm with my GPS and always found it difficult to position "just right" and virtually impossible to just hand over to my passenger.
Prior to the suction mount, I had also tried an adhesive dashboard mount - that held for about a week.
When I saw this dashboard friction mount I was skeptical - but it held up for sudden stops and hard turns very well. In fact, as long as it was fully on the dashboard and not hanging off, it was great. Better yet, it was easy to pick up and reposition, or pass over to a passenger for navigation on-the-go.
The portability keeps your car from being a target (sometime thieves think you might have left the GPS in the car).

Before you write a review, know your facts. The product specs clearly state that this item is for use with the nuvi series and the street pilot 5XX series. Of course this will not work with a street pilot 3XX series.
I found this product easy to use and very helpful. Todays slanted windshields and some state laws make the use of this item essential.

I used my Nuvi 360 with the winshield mount and it kept coming off driving from NC to FL. When I was in FL, I purchased this Auto Friction Mount and it was the best decision I made. My GPS stayed in one spot on the Dash, did not move an inch; especially making sharp turns. It stayed in one spot driving back from FL. It works good with Leather dashboard(s). I used it on a 01 Oldsmobile Aurora and it fit fine on a dash that has many curves. I also used it on a 02 Cadillac Seville STS and the fit was good; it didn't go anywhere.

Don't buy this product if you have the streetpilot c340.Contrary to what the package indicates, it doesn't work.I disassembled my entire mounting bracket trying to make it fit and no dice. Oh, by the way garmin, thanks for the instructions!

After two suction mounts and cleaning lots of black goo of my windshield, I decided to try the friction mount. Great product. Stays put, and superior to window mound in lots of ways. Move to whatever spot on the dash is best for any lighting conditions.

As one of the other reviewers stated, it is unclear whether certain Garmin GPS units require one or more additional parts for the portable mounts. This portable friction mount works perfectly with the Garmin Nuvi 660 -- you do need the bracket that holds the GPS unit from the suction cup mount that ships with the Nuvi 660. Just remove it and snap it on to the ball of the friction mount.
The mount itself works perfectly -- my GPS stays put in typical California driving (which has included a few sudden braking maneuvers at rush hour). Excellent solution for those who want to be able to use the GPS in multiple vehicles.

This mount works great. The selection of Garmin mounts is confusing as some are two parts and some are one. If you have a Nuvi with the included windshield mount, then this is the only part you need to buy. The included mount disassembles at the ball and socket joint and attaches to this one. I can't say it will never come off the dash if I do some really high speed maneuver, but so far it's held steady for all regular driving.
I like that it's easy to move the mount and gps unit down to the floor when I park. Yeah a thief could still see it if they came right up to my car but at least it's not obvious from halfway across the parking lot like a windshield mount is. A thief that sees an empty windshield mount is probably going to assume (correctly) that I've just put the unit in the glove compartment.

If you live in MN or CA where it putting your GPS on the windshield is not allowed, this is the next best alternative. It doesn't move when you turn the corner and it is much better than trying to find a place for that circular disk.

I used this device to hold my GPS device in both the Honda Civic and Acura TL. It was great and never moved despite fast turns and hard braking.

Although I was skeptical, this holds onto the dash in both my Highlander and RX300. The ball attached directly to the mount that came with my Nuvi 360. No other kits were required.
