The sound is great, as was the price. They deliver a booming sound with great bass line. I will admit they are not quite Bose or anything, but the sound is crisp and reaches great volumes without getting full of static. For the price, these are a great purchase!

Odd... well, one would think a product released later with a higher model number would be better. Apparently, that rule does not apply here. Sneaky marketing?
I also own the X-230 and I was very impressed with it, considering they're 2.1 speakers. The X-230 actually feels like surround sound. However, I can't say the same about the X-240's. The X-240 just sounds like what one would usually expect from 2.1 speakers.
The X-230 has two drivers in each speaker (total of four), whereas this new version, X-240, only contains one; that may be why it sounds more flat.
The X-240 sounds like I'm just listening from a regular jukebox. It doesn't sound terrible, but it just doesn't have that rich dynamic feel and sounds a bit muffled.

I live in an apartment and the speakers sound better than my stereo system that I already have and at a fraction of the cost. I can't turn the woofer up past #2 because the neighbors complain about the bass but it sure sounds good. I listened to the beatles love album and can I just tell you? It was an awesome experience! It also works with my Ipod without the computer if I want to. They are small speakers and very stylish on my computer desk. They don't take up much room. They also have long speaker wire so I can move them to another desk if I want to. Logitech is a good name. I know I will have these a long time.

Attention potential X-240 buyers: Be sure to read all of the reviews for this item. After reading the top-rated review I was a little discouraged, but I went with my gut and bought the X-240s, and they r very nice speakers, the only thing u need to watch out for: that "muffled" sound talked about stems from using the green tipped cord, instead of that cord find a small black aux in cord and on the side of the ipod holder find a little port with a musical note next to it, connect that with the small black cord to your ipod or computer, the sound is really quality with that connection (Although I don't know why, just trust me it works.) The x-240s r great speakers, so be sure to read all the reviews before you make up your mind.

I am happy with my purchase - the speakers were easy to set up and are powerful enough to fill my home office with great sound.
What I like about this set of speaker is that I can still use them even if my computer is off. I just plug in my ipod and I am ready to listen to great music.
If you don't like a deep base, you may want to consider other alternatives.

A nice little set of speakers that fill the room with great sound. I can hook my ipod right up to it and listen to music all day or play anything from my laptop. Small, portable, attractive and a really unexpectedly good sound for the money.

I am really enjoying my new speakers which were much needed since I own a laptop. The volume goes up loud and the sound is really good, with just enough base. Though, keep in mind that I'm not high tech or ahead of the curve with respect to technology.

I'm not an audiophile (meaning versed and experienced with expensive audio equipment $10,0000, $20,0000, $40,000, $100,000 and above. But, by the way I hate tin, and I hate tinny sound systems. Hey, this ain't tinny. If it's not high end, well, I paid only about $30-$40 dollars for this and I got it on sale at Office Depot (this week only!!??).
The sound is really good for the price. (You may not like that expression "for the price)." Maybe that's what's hanging you up. Maybe you want "good at any price." But if your expecting the sound of a multi hundred (or thousand dollar) audio system for relatively free, then I'd say, you're probably also expecting big money to fall down from the sky; free medical care, a country without a multi trillion dollar deficit; and other such wonderful imaginary things (maybe also mermaids, unicorns, ideal fault-free spouses, lovers, and friends, too!). So for those of you who have these type of expectations, well, I guess the system stinks.

I GOT THESE SPEAKERS AS AH GIFT FROM MY WIFE,IM AH MUSIC PRODUCER,AND I JUST BUILT MY IN HOME STUDIO. I HAD TO WAIT ABOUT AH MONTH,TO GET THE MONEY TOGETHER FOR MY MONITORS AND MIXER,BUT MY WIFE WENT AND BOUGHT THESE SPEAKERS TO HOLD ME OVER.

These are fine speakers considering the low price. The bass is a little boomy due to the subwoofer handling frequencies up into the low midrange. Mid to high detail is fair to good. You won't mistake these for audiophile gear, but they are pleasant to listen to and fine for the price.
One gotcha: the control unit that sits on your desk (power switch, volume control, headphone jack, iPod jack) is permanently wired to the subwoofer. If you are using these at a office desk or anywhere else where you want to take advantage of cable management holes and channels, you may not be able to do so with these speakers. The control unit is too big to fit through even the largest of cable management holes. The top of my desk "floats" above the sides and modesty panels of my desk, and the control unit won't even fit through that large space. How much could it cost to wire the control unit using a jack?

I've owned the Logitech X-230s for several years and have always been more than pleased with their performance. They're easily the best sounding speakers in their price range. When it came time to buy another set of speakers for a second computer, I went searching for a new set of X-230s, but in my search I saw that there was a newer X-240 line of speakers, comparably priced. I assumed that I would be getting nearly the same or better sound quality out of a newer generation of my X-230s, but when they arrived the next day (amazon prime has changed my life) I was sorely disappointed.
The sound quality is lacking significantly compared to the X-230s, and no matter what I did to my sound settings on my computer and the bass level on the subwoofer, I could not get away from the muddled mid-range tones. The highs are quite tinny and the speakers put out almost nothing in the lower range, instead relying on the subwoofer to do all the low-end sound. Even with my the subwoofer turned all

I have a MacBook and a Zune... go figure.
The speakers on my laptop leave much to be desired, this is a great addition for a 'not so bulky' setup.
As for the Zune/IPod compatibility, well, they may as well say it is compatible with every MP3 player. It is simply a line in mini jack that plugs into the headphone location. In this case, any player or computer will work.
But to the reviewers credit, there are plastic Zune and IPod adapters that allow you to plug the USB cable in the bottom. Kinda hides the cable... useless in my opinion.
Certainly a heck of a lot more economical and versatile than a stand alone Ipod or Zune external speaker system. I personally don't care for 'one trick ponies'
Oh, the IPod stand that you see in the pic. It's just a flimsy plastic drawer that slides out. Again, you can put any MP3 player on this stand.

I am rating these speakers 5 stars because of the sound they produce for only 50 bucks! I am very pleased with these speakers. I have also noticed that the ipod craze is still among us. If you don't want to spend the imoney for an ihome to plug your ipod into, Logitech has designed these speakers to cradle your ipod for playing and charging your as well as being what they should be COMPUTER SPEAKERS!! I have found these speakers to be perfect for my laptop setup, as well as use with my ipod. I recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a nice set of speakers with a great bass sound for a great price!

Even though this is only a 2.1 system, the subwoofer is pure and the two front speakers are very crisp. The setup was 95% easier than i had anticipated. I'm no sound expert, but wow. I think anyone would be able to find true satisfaction with this set.
The ipod-port is a pretty neat add on! All ipods and mp3 players should work since it operates thru headphone jack.
