Pros: Easy to use and setup
Cons: nothing
My new laptop's SSD drive isn't very large -- so I decided to get an external drive to store all my photos, music, etc. Looking around, particularly at Western Digital --- I read dozens of reviews of the 1TB and 2TB versions where about 50% of the people HATED the thing and horrible issues with it not working, hard to use, etc. I figured I'd give it a try and went for the 3TB version.

Pros: No problems, sits there and holds my files!
Cons: Hasn't disapointed yet. I COULD whine about the price...
Filled up my 1 gig external with lesson videos for the website and concert footage of my students so I needed another. I plugged the My Book into my first hard drive, computer found it and started storing ukulele video lessons immediately!

Pros: Compact, Easy To Set Up, Easy to use, High Capacity, Quiet
I use this drive as a time machine back up for myself and my wife's macbooks. I have two 3TBs. I have an active one at home and an static copy (updated monthly) at the office.

Western Digital My Book Studio 3 TB FireWire 800 External Hard Drive
Pros: Compact, Cool, Fast, Quiet, Solid aluminum, Versatile
There is one weirdness about it not mounting if you connect it in a certain way. Google it to find out the order in which you should turn on computer and do the connections if you have trouble connecting it on FW. Other than that (knock on wood) it has been great so far (a few weeks). Very silent, no need to turn it on and off, and firewire for the initial backup and switched to USB afterwards for incremental backups. First proper backup solution I've ever owned.

I did a LOT of shopping around, and barring any future complications, it seemed like the best combination of value, good ports and other good features for a Mac backup solution.

Pros: Compact, Cool, Fast, Quiet, Solid aluminum, Versatile
The drive is a lot smaller than I expected and has the size of a compact dictionary. It is so quiet at startup that I first thought I got a DOA :) It has a very solid aluminum construction and looks very neat.

Blackmagic disk speed test yields write/read around 80MB/50MB with an iMac
