I have purchased three other styles of digital frames. I select the photos for the memory card and give them as gifts. I have always been able to work through the technical glitches. On this particular model I was not able to do so. It originally showed just a few of the photos I had on the memory card. I was able to determine that it wasn't reading anything in the folders. In the past, if there were files with duplicate names I put them in separate folders so that I didn't have to rename them. It didn't work in this case. So I took the folders off the memory card, but then the frame no longer recognized any of the photos. Then I tried a different memory card, and it wouldn't read any of those photos either. I may have had a defective one, I don't know, but I finally decided just to return it.
I love how easy Amazon makes it to return items, I don't even have to pay the postage. That is awesome.

Tried to load pictures on it for 3 days and then it died. Frame is black and will not restart. I called tech support and the guy pretty much said they usually die after a couple months or out of the box. They never work for a few days then die. Go figure mine did. When it was working, what should have been a simple loading process was very confusing. I could only fit about 2MB of pictures on the internal memory even though there is supposedly 32MB of space on it. Anyway, it's a nice looking frame when it works... too bad they need to get the bugs out first.

The toggle button on the back, which is required to navigate the menu items, did not work - it only went in two directions. Therefore, the frame was unusable. I had to return the item. The picture quality seemed okay, but no better than a Kodak frame I bought a few weeks ago. I would not recommend this frame until they make it easier to use and navigate.

I own a Nikon SLR, which shoots in the 3:2 ratio (4'X6" print ratio). I received another brand photo frame for Christmas with the 4:3 ratio (common ratio for many non-SLR digital cameras) but returned it because I do not want to go through all the trouble to crop my pictures in a ratio other than what my files already are.
I researched photo frames quite a bit and selected the Philips for not only the 3:2 ratio but also the LCD picture quality and frame features. Important features for me are:
-on-board memory is convenient if you just want to hook the USB to your computer and not use the memory card option (the USB cord is kind of short, though at only 38")
- the ability to choose between one of the multiple transition options (fade is my favorite) or random transitions
- show pictures in order of sequential or random
- choose background colors of black, white, or gray
- ability to "collage fill" on the sides of a vertical image so there is no empty space on the screen.
- internal

I bought 3 of these Philips frames in the past month for gifts. They are awesome. No trouble with any of them. I read a lot of reviews beforehand which was very helpful and made my experience with the frames trouble-free. The best way (which I read from someone else) to put photos on, is to buy the $9 all-in-one card reader (USB device) which reads a variety of memory cards. This acts like a little hard drive then. Put all your photos on the card in a folder (not on the main level or root). Then insert the card into the frame and you are done! No problems at all! I did not copy any of the photos onto the frame memory, only the card, so I can edit my library whenever I want easily from my computer and dump the new library on the card.
The date function is the only thing I found to be defective. You can't set a date past the 12th. Which I read was a problem for others too. But if that is the only glitch so far, I am pleased.
The metal frame is by far the best I think. Looks and feels expensive

Tried and tried and tried uploading from a Mac. While I had no problem uploading, none of the photos appeared on the frame. Called tech support (which, incidentally, is in the Philippines) and, despite the fact that the manual clearly mentions Mac support, was told that Mac is not supported. He referred me to a FAQ, which does not mention the issue at all (their on-line support says to call Customer Support!) I asked to speak to a supervisor who said that it can be used with a Mac and she talked me through it (the same way I had done it) but still no photos showed. Fortunately (?) I have a PC and, using the Photo Manager software (PC only) I had no problem. So, if you only have a Mac, forget it.

Based on other reviews I bought this digital frame to display photos on my entertainment center in the living room. It makes me smile every time I look at it! The software is hard to use and I never did figure out how to make the frame work with a memory card. The display is clear and you can see it from across the room. Even my 3 year old granddaughter is taken with it - she wondered why there was a tiny TV on the entertainment center. I have the frame set to automatically come on in the morning and go off at night and that feature is quite nice. The documentation that came with the frame should be reworked to make it user friendly. I work with computers and pictures as a pretty steady hobby and I had a hard time with the directions for this product. It was not intuitive like so many other computer related items. But I would buy it again - and in fact I gave my son one for Christmas and he loves it also. So, make yourself smile and buy one!

This is the Mercedes Benz of digital picture frames. I purchased one for my wife as a Christmas gift for displaying pictures of our grandchildren. The resolution is far better than anything I have reviewed. In addition to the resolution, it is simple to setup and change the photos for display. We have since bought two more for the grandmothers. I received one of a different brand for Christmas and there is no comparison, the Philips quality is far superior. I have one complaint, not with the product but with the delivery time. We have yet to receive the third one purchased [..] and still shows on my order for[..]thru 23rd delivery.
