Despite all the bad reviews i bought this driver anyway and I'm glad i did. I already had 3 of the 2tb green drives and 1 of the 1tb green drives and they all worked fine. This one was no different. A month or so later it still works fine just like the others. Running it in a RAID 1 setup inside a synology NAS and it works great. I watched probably 20 HD movies and listed to music for hours from it without a hitch. SMART tests report no errors. The drive is currently 95% full.<br />I think maybe the other bad reviews of dead drives were either user error in most cases or due to the drives being OEM which uses less protective packaging. I'd be willing to bet transit damage was responsible for a lot of it. Or maybe I was just lucky. Currenly I am using 5 of these green drives and so far they all work fine ranging in age from 3yrs to 3 months and in size from 1tb, 2tb and 3tb.

I set up my own digital video recorder with a Mac Mini, eyeTV and a Drobo drive array. I put in two of these drives to set up the minimum needed to RAID the data. We recorded 50-60 hours of Hi-Def olympic coverage along with numerous other videos for the kids and all has worked well. Drives are quiet and inaudible over the usual TV sound and the Drobo's fans which cycle on and off as needed. I only have 4 drive bays so I didn't want to waste them on anything smaller. I also liked the longer 3 Year warranty (most competitors were just 1).

It's 3 TB. I've barely put a dent in it. It's nice to have so much room to back up my important files without having to burn them to DVD which has a questionable shelf life.

I bought this to use in my DroboPro which already had 3 2TBdrives and was running out of space. I just took this out of the packaging, popped it into the DroboPro and I was done. Obviously, I can't rate long term reliability until it has been in for a while, but so far so good.

In store staff were quite unhelpful in providing me information on how to get this 3TB to be recognized in my late model tower. I had to attach it externally through USB to get Win7 Professional to get it formatted to 2TB.

Great price for the capacity of the drive, I own 4 of those already, I'm a photographer, this new drive is noisy and 3 times today it bump me out of copying files, it is installed in my Drobo with 2 other drive, hope this one is not defective...

We could not get this to work properly on 2 computer systems (bought in 2007) . So, we returned it and got an external drive for cheaper. These older computers could not recognize it for more than 750GB. The external 3 TB drive that we replaced this with does work on these older systems.

Bought 5 of these for a NAS device. All plugged in, all running without issue.<br />Won't get the performance of some higher cost drives or obviously SSD but the price for the size couldn't be beaten.

Missed this detail when purchasing the drive. As a result, it won't work in Windows Home Server v1 machines. On top of that, 2GB drives are a much better value when you look at the cost per GB.

I put 3 of these in a ReadyNAS, so there was no trouble with 4k sectors, or any other problems so far, but it's only been a week. These were advertised as SATA 3GB/s drives but the drives in the box (2 from JR, 1 from another retailer) were all model WD30EZRX, which has a SATA 6GB/s interface. I listed slow as a con, but it's acceptable as it's a &quot;green&quot; drive. They aren't made with performance in mind.

Geek Squad dudes at the store helped me get the hard drive in the carriage. I popped it in ... logged in to the server and Voila! -- I was in business. Good product ... great price ... helpful support in store.

Easy to install, if you are using windows 7,and adds lots of storage space. Can't install your operating system on this drive,unless you are using an EFI motherboard. Nevertheless, it is great for adding more storage space.

I have 2 of these in a mirror raid - for even better reliability - using Windows 7 Pro x64.Great for archiving files but don't expect this to be a performance drive because that is not what it's designed to be.At the time of my purchase, J&amp;R had a better deal than [@] - and it was in retail packaging compared to the OEM bare drive at the other vendor.+1 for J&amp;R.
