This is by far the best GPS on the market for the money, as all the previous posts have pointed out, and don't worry about the post where someone mentioned that Garmin isn't providing free map upgrades for recent purchases. I called them yesterday and while they itially weren't going offer the upgrade (as in previous years), there must have been enough people complaining, because they said "corporate has reversed they're decision and are now offering the upgrade through the website". All you have to do is register your Nuvi and in a couple days a link will show up stating you have 30 days to download the newest maps. They even said if I didn't see the link, they would mail me a CD with the maps. Checked my this morning and sure enough, it was there! Thanks Garmin.

I upgraded to the 660 from the 650, and Love it. the Blue tooth sync'd to my phone flawlessly and is a great feature, Not only can you make and take calls hands free..but you can one touch dial any business that is in your Garmin. Such as if you bring up a restaurant you can one touch dial and get reservations...and Garmin will already have your ETA .. The MP3 player also is a great touch. The only drawback is the FM modulator is weak But I guess the FCC limits that. It is great is you use a line in jack into your radio.
I would Highly recommend a 660 for someone that travels. I drive a School Bus and love it on trips..

Best thing I have purchased in a while. Very easy to use, hands free phone and mp3 player. The only thing is the mount leaves marks where ever you use it. I bought the beanbag mount which is very easy to use. Great bargain and good investment.

The Gramin nuvi 660 GPS Navigator is exactly what I expected. The maps are up to date. Over all I would recomend the Garmin Nuvi 660 to first time users as well as experienced users. Amazon has the best price.
A minor things that could be improved is the pronuncation of street names. Some are confusing and require an extra thought to translate into my vocablary. Such as Live in Live Oak is pronunced as live as in people live in Dallas.
The traffic warning tend to put you on frontage roads whit stop lights when it would be better to remain on the free way.

I have tried many different devices; the TomTom series, the other Garmin units; C340, etc. I finally settled on the 660 because of it's decent price and size.
PROS: Large memory (2 gig) can add up to 4 Gig more, text to speech, large display, easy to use.
CONS: Does not have a software solution to back-up your data (have to do it manually), lack of choices for screen colors/themes, must pay for yearly updates.

THE 660 REPLACED MY STREET PILOT 310 WHICH WAS OK BUT BULKY, WHEN I WAS LOOKING FOR A NEWER AND MORE SLEEK GPS MODEL WITH BLUE TOOTH THE 660 FILLED THE BILL.THE NAV SYSTEM IS BETTER THAN THE 310, THE VOICE PROMPTS ARE REPEATED MORE THAN ONCE SO YOU DON'T MISS YOUR TURN, AND THE RE-CALCULATING OF A DIRECTION WHEN YOU SCREW UP DOES NOT TAKE YOU MILES OUT OF THE WAY AS THE 310 SOME TIMES DID. THE BLUE TOOTH IS GREAT, IN MY CASE MAYBE BECAUSE I HAVE A RAZR 3V ONCE IT RECOGNIZES THE PHONE IT COPIES YOUR PHONE BOOK UP TO DATE,WHEN YOU REMOVE OR ADD AN ADDRESS ON YOUR PHONE SO DOES THE NUVI. THE ABILITY TO USE YOUR FM RADIO AS THE AUDIO OUTPUT FOR YOU NUVI IS FAST AND SIMPLE, PERSONALLY I DON'T LIKE DOING THAT AS I CAN HEAR THE BACK GROUND OF THE FM STATION THE NUVI FINDS TO MODULATE THE AUDIO, THAT ASIDE MOST PEOPLE SHOULD ENJOY THEIR MUSIC WHICH IS EASILY DOWN LOADED ONTO AN OPTIONAL SD CARD. I DID NOT USE THE NUVI AS A BRIDGE

Nuvi 660 is better than the competition.
I've used & returned TomTom's best, Magellan's best and still have a Garmin GPS 18 as well as an old Garmin color map unit that the 660 will replace.
1) While the POI & Places database is extensive, it didn't list the nearby railroad stations or town halls. Places that pre-date GPS entirely. Makes you wonder who paid to be listed.
2) It's already taken me to an incorrect destination, the restaurant's address was incorrectly listed in the database. Right name, right town, wrong street altogether. Maybe not Garmin's fault but embarassing with clients in the car & others following...
3) Some of the Text To Speech audio is garbled or so softly spoken it's difficult to understand. Thats with the internal audio at 100%.
4) The FM transmitter for receiving GPS audio on the car's radio is so weak, there is continuous static regardless of what station it selects automatically or I find manually. The radio works just fine otherwise. Additionally, the

I've had a "660" for about a year. I bought mine for about $615 which at the time was a great price. This is a great device. The GPS is everything you'd expect, the MP3 player is top-notch, the Bluetooth works great, and the windshield mount stays on tight.
I travel a lot and use this device from vehicle to vehicle. I use it in cities where I have no idea where I am, and I've never, ever, been lost. I also use it to listen to audio books from Audible on my regular commute. In addition, it is coupled with my Verizon Bluetooth phone. If you're listening to a book, it even backs up a few seconds after the GPS has given you directions so you don't lose your place.
The downsides are that the speakers are not good enough for anything other than simple directions. If you're going to use it as an MP3 player or use the Bluetooth for your phone in your car, you need a vehicle with an AUX jack on your radio and feed the headphone jack into it. Also, it sometimes could be faster in telling you whether

The Nuvi 660 is great for those who just want to quickly route to places without having to go through a bunch of steps. It routes very well, and fairly quickly. The maps are pretty accurate and it does a good job of picking a good route. Don't expect a lot of flexibility with your route, however. There is a re-route button, but pressing it just causes the route to be recalculated with some different roads (you don't get to pick which ones).
The big plusses are:
1. The routing. Garmin is really good at this. It picks a route for you fairly quickly and recalculates in a decent amount of time. It has routed me incorrectly a couple times (ie. turn left from a divided road), but its possible this was an error with the map data, and wasn't anything too bad.
2. The mount is very well designed with a ball joint allowing you to swivel the 660 around a bit. You connect the power to the mount, so you can quickly release the unit and go. Attaching and releasing the 660 is really easy and the suction

First off, I LOVE this GPS. I think it is fantastic and is the best I have owned (previously had a Magellan - Grrrr). The only two issues I have with it are the Bluetooth connection to my phone (people complain that I sound like I am talking to them at the bottom of a well) and the FM transmitter (it is horribly weak). Every other piece and part of this GPS unit is truly magnificient and I highly recommend it even with the two issues mentioned above. Can't go wrong with a NUVI!

The first time I purchased this GPS, it was as a gift for my grandmother (far from tech savvy). Her and her husband like to go on trips and I wanted something that would be extremely intuitive and easy to use for two older people. Expectations met. I then purchased 1 for myself (very tech savvy) and, shortly after that, one for my wife (moderately tech savvy). We all love our Nuvi's and have used them for cross country trips as well as jaunts around town and walking (in pedestrian mode, of course) around Boston and Chicago. Everyone I have ever handed this unit to has been able to use it without instruction. The only problem I have ever had with the 660 is it being unable to obtain signal in downtown Chicago during a thunderstorm, but I expect this would have been the case for any GPS considering the dense cloud cover and the tall buildings. We all love the Garmin Nuvi 660 and people ask us all the time about where to get one and how much they are. I always send them to amazon because

I bought this unit for my wife to use. I wanted something that was first and foremost easy to use, but also had to be bright and have a large screen. It also had to be small enough to want to take with you and not leave it in the vehicle
The unit lives up to everything I wanted it to do. It also acquires the satellites quickly and the directions it provides are consistent with other navi systems (like the factory Honda/Acura system in my car
Some folks complained about it (and similar units) being too dumbed down because it does not allow multiple waypoints. I personally don't find this to be an issue and have a nice workaround. Add the waypoints as stored locations. Then once on the road - just select the stored waypoint you want to visit.
I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the mount is proprietary and has an integral power connection. This should be more generic and allow for the use of an external power supply

From a guy who has no sense of direction and who can't remember a stranger's directions after the second turn after the third light, this thing is a life saver and downright fun. It was the highest rated GPS on Consumer Reports and is a little wider than other cheaper models. The graphics are very clear and the colors leave little to guess at. I love the computation that tells you when you will arrive and it adjusts itself to reflect an updated estimate which is usually correct to the minute. There's also an alternate screen that shows your gps measured speed, top speed, average speed, miles progressed and miles to go. Other screens give you information about eating establishments, gas stations, hotels at a touch of a button. After selecting one, say for a rest stop, it will insert the diversion as part of your route so when you leave it gets you back on track. Why 4 stars and not 5? At times it has been a little ambiguous and I wound up straying off course very briefly. But when

While the Nuvi 660 is full of features and potential upgrades, it lacks the basics of what a GPS is all about, reliable NAVIGATION.
Given all of the high reviews, maybe mine is defective but seems to have lots of issues. I started with a Garmin i2 a couple of years ago and the i2 seems better at the basics, navigation.
Here are the issues:
1. Not reliable in cities. I have used the 660 in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. The unit keeps getting confused and changing the route constantly. It figures the right route, 10 seconds later it changes its route, but not in the right direction and not because I made a wrong turn. 5 to 10 second later, does it again, and again...
2. In several cases, when starting out, the unit tells me to "please find my way to the highlighted route". Wait, I got a GPS to get me to the highlighted not make me figure how to get started. In these cases, it could be a mile or more to get there, while I know the roads to do that are on the map, why?

I was forced to buy a new GPS when my Nuvi 350 was stolen. It creates all of the basic routes that any GPS system will do, but that is only the beginning. I drive many hours daily in LA traffic. Being able to know what the real traffic actually is on my route is a blessing. If the traffic is bad on my route, I select "Avoid" and am rerouted around it! WOW. Worth more than I paid! I also was able to sync the bluetooth to my iPhone and have hands free speaker phone. It also sees all the names in my contact list and can choose them from the Nuvi screen. The only thing it doesn't do is drive the car. Totally pleased!

A recent purchase of this GPS has the entire family quite happy. We haven't had it too long, but here is what we know so far. We are not techies so our criteria was EASE OF USE and portability (it is small, fits into hubby's shirt pocket). This unit fits the bill excellently.
The 660 has a larger screen than others we looked at. The graphics are clear and they amaze you as you drive, ie: if you're going over water, the blue water appears, train tracks show, day and night are apparent. You can move the on-screen map with an easy finger touch. With a Bluetooth cell phone you can make and receive calls (hands free) in the car, or wherever and after the call you are still on track to your destination. THe audio is clearer than many automobile installed phones we have heard. If you make a deviation from the designated route the Nuvi will recalculate and guide you from there. I realize that there is a traffic component that will redirect you, but you may have a monthly fee with that. We

The Garmin Nuvi 660 is technically excellent. However, if you check carefully, the route created by its logic may be very much in error. We just purchased the Nuvi 660 for our trip from Miami back to our home in NY. Normally, when entering the Washington DC area, we take the "Beltway" and never enter the city area. We requested the "fastest" route and the Nuvi 660 did not utilize the Beltway. Actually, the route it created required us to get off the highway at Pennslyvannia Ave. to then once again get back on the highway (I295 South). There were also numerous other odd routes after this that the "660" came up with. In checking Mapquest, which I am not a great fan of, it appears the route chosen by the "660" may have been the shortest, but certainly not the fastest. Possibly, the Nuvi can't differentiate those two choices although it has a choice for both in the menu. My assessment is that the "660" has what is known as "spell check mentality". That is when spell check verifies
