Really nice unit that fit my needs perfectly. I wanted a machine that would very quickly and reliably scan documents to my pc, but also be versatile enough to send a few faxes a day and perform light printing. The machine is very fast. Does a great job. I highly recommend for someone not needing color printing. I am very pleased with the quality of the machine and it's performance.

So I currently have Canon i9900 photo printer that is great. It is our only printer, so when my daughter wants to print coloring pages from the Internet, it can be expensive with the i9900 creating black from all of the expensive cartridges. With that in mind we wanted to find a laser all-in-one so that we would occasionally scan and frequently print double-sided pages.
After reading reviews on the MF4150 I went to my local Staples and
purchased the unit. The unit hooked up to my Vista machine without issue and I was able to get it to work within minutes. The duplexing feature being the main attraction to buying this unit, I tried it out right away. Looking at the 2-sided page you could plain as day see that the 2nd page was crooked. Figuring it might have something to do with the paper I was using, I switched it and tried again....same thing. Figuring I had just got a bad unit, I returned to Staples and got a replacement MF4150. SAME THING. Crooked slanted duplexing output.

I use this copier in a highschool classroom. The students use it daily to make copies of their projects to keep in their portfolios. The controls are easy to use and it makes really quick copies. I use it most for copy reductions as well as 2 copies on 1 page. Great product for the price. I have recomended it to my co-workers!

I was looking for a multifunction laser printer that had a sheet feeder, duplex capability for a good price and I found one. This has a ton of features and good quality. I have been using this for 6 months now and have nothing to complain about. I would recommend it to anyone.
Pros:
The duplex feature is great, it save a lot on paper.
Scanning is quick compared to my HP Officejet
Better scanning and printing software than Brother or HP
Small footprint
Quiet operation
Prints quick
Holds a lot of paper
Prints envelopes a lot better than my HP Officejet
It prints sharp and clear
Cons:
The sheet feeder jams if you use thin or wrinkled paper but it work flawlessly on regular copy paper and had very few problems with the sheet feeder.
The printer will say it is out of toner well before it is but you can get around this by taking out the toner cartridge and shaking it. I get around 1800 pages per cartridge. My old inkjet only got me around 500 pages per cartridge and those cartridges were

We got this item for a few reasons:
1. scanner for the kids' artwork
2. duplex copy/print capability
3. rare fax use
So far we have used it for reasons (1) and (2) and it has worked very well. It was incredibly easy to set up the unit, "quick start" guide is easy to follow.
Scanning software has also worked well. We've scanned directly to both PDF and JPG files using the ADF without any trouble. Color seems to be good on the images.
Copier/print capabilities work as expected.
Would definitely buy this product again!

Hello - I just received my machine today. It was well packed and undamaged, surviving the trip well.
Upon unpacking the machine I located the literature & software pack and was pleased to see a Vista driver disk. I read a lot of reviews before buying this machine and it seems it is not uncommon to have to download the drivers for your new machine from the manufacturers web site. Call me inherently mistrustful if you will - drivers can be hard to find, and if you find them it seems there can be 4 different drivers with minor differences, leaving you to question whether or not you got the correct, and latest driver. Downloading can be an adventure, and installation never seems to be as easy as click/click/click. I wanted a driver disk with my machine.
I prepared the system in accordance with the easy to follow "Quick Installaion Guide" and prepared to install the software with some apprehension - we all know the problems/conflicts that can arise.

I've had this product for about a year and a half, and for the most part it has worked well. Two days ago I got the "toner not set" message. Tried reinserting the cartridge multiple times, tried a different cartridge, I even tried shaking the stupid thing like one reviewer suggested. Finally I called Canon and was told it's a sensor problem and I'd just have to send it in to be fixed (of course no warranty any more).
I don't personally consider a year and a half to be sufficient time before a product breaks down, planned obsolescence or not. I'm just going back to my HP.

This printer seemed wonderful from its description on the website -- quiet, versatile, economical. However, when I received it and plugged it into my iMac G5, the printer and fax work wonderfully, but we found no software support for the scanner function. The scanner is listed as TWAIN compliant, but no third-party scanning software I've researched will recognize it.
I am disappointed that Canon would make its products 66.6% Mac-compatible. I will never buy another Canon product again.

If you don't mind spending $80 on toner every thousand pages, this is the machine for you. I get 1200 pages at most before I have to go out and buy another toner cartridge. I've had this printer for two months, and already I'm looking for another.

After several hours of reading, installing, and trial and error, I am unable to connect my MacBook Pro to the Canon MF 4150 via airport. In my opinion, this product should NOT have the MAC compatible symbol on the box if it is not completely compitable. The downloaded drivers give me continuous error messages for both FAX and PRINT. The no recipients message is given every time I try to print. Fax is not even an option at this point. I do not recommend.
I did read the side of the box prior to purchase that the Canon stated that it had limited functionality of only fax and print (this was all I needed). Yet, it still did not work. I'm going back to my Samsung ML2550 printer (worked out of the box) and I'll buy a separate copy machine and fax machine by companies other than Canon.
I will NEVER buy another Canon in my life for any of my businesses.

This is an absolutely fabulous machine. It replaced my Brother MFC that finally died after years of use. This is my first MFC with a flatbed included. This feature is so great - now my device doubles as a photo scanner as well as my home office machine. Key features:
1 - Scans with great quality. I scanned some 8x10's and had them printed from an online site at 8x10 and they were as perfect as the original.
2 - Double-Sided printing. This is a great feature which allows you to save lots of paper on printing.
3 - Tough. I have three little kids (5,4,3). They love to copy pictures out of books or copy the pictures they have drawn and pass them out to family members. It has held up to their not so gentle use.
4 - Fast. Prints very fast.
5 - Quiet. When not printing, is absolutely silent, then warms up quickly to print. Printing I guess could be a bit quieter, but this is similar to any other machine I have used.
Overall, this was a great purchase. The only thing I would

This printer is small and prints well, and is quiet. For the price it is probably a very good laser multifunction - and I really like it's ability to do double sided printing, but does have some limitations and quirks that I find irritating:
- No ability to quickly cancel a print job. All my prior printers (several HP laser and ink jet models) had a button to cancel the current print job - useful to stop multi-page printing started in error or if you change your mind. This printer can only do that through a lengthy and complicated process of going through menus on its LCD - no quick cancel button. I was surprised that hitting the "Stop" button didn't do it.
- Fax doesn't really share line with home phone. While it has a setting for this it only works with a phone connected to the printer, not an extension phone on the same line. If you answer a voice call on an extension phone the MF4150 starts an irritating ringing on the line after a few seconds, regardless if it was a voice or

We were originally looking at all-in-one color inkjets. But with the ink so expensive and our use for color so low, we decided on a laser. We just kept our old inkjet and if we need anything nicer than what it can handle, we will just take it to Kinko's or Staples. I'm really glad we made this decision. The laser has been fabulous. Really fast, and the ink lasts forever compared to an inkjet.
The Canon was easy to set up. No terrible bloatware with it. Looks nice. I didn't initially like that the paper tray had to be open when there was paper in it (took up more room and didn't look as clean), but we have found that if we don't keep the tray too full, we can still close it. The paper has a slight bend to it, but not really noticeable.
I didn't think the duplexing would be a big deal, but I have found that I really do like it. The text quality is soooo much better than an inkjet. Whenever the Canon has been sitting unused for more than a minute or so, it goes into energy saver

Comparing this product to other laserprinter I used before, this printer is very quite while it's in energy-saving mode (it go saving mode while you don't use it for a minute). Moreover, while you print something, the first page show up in 10 secs. I choose this one because of its 2-side printing function, and after testing it, I think this one whould be a one of the best ROI (Return on Investment) one I bought before.
If you need 2-side printing & once a while copy/fax function, this product should fits you need. I have not yet test its FAX function because I don't need it.
Anyway, I think this printer worth its price. By the way, I use Windows Vista, so I believe it is vista compatible.

This is an amazing little machine, and for the price it can't be beat! I really shopped around for the best deal, and this is it. Amazon has an amazing price. The sample cartridge that comes with the machine has lasted a long time. Fax functions are great, printing, duplexing, scanning to .pdf file - all great!

The only reason I didn't give this all in one printer 5 stars is that I have not yet subjected it to heavy use. That will take awhile. It is replacing a 10 year old printer that worked like a charm. I'm replacing it because I needed a new fax machine and having one machine rather than 2 in an office made good sense. Plus the Canon is faster and duplexes.
I'm not generally a fan of all in one products because one of the functions seems to suffer. But this seems to work fine. I haven't yet tested scanning a document into a pdf file yet, because I haven't had to do that yet.
Definitely worth looking at this product if you are looking for a smaller all in one printer.

Awesome:
1. Very quiet.
2. Goes in to hibernate quickly to save energy and bursts back to life instantly when needed.
3. Great print quality.
4. Does it all (except for color)including fax, copy, scan, and duplex printing.
5. Duplex printing saves a lot of resources (paper and money).
6. Most of the settings and buttons are user friendly.
Not so awesome:
1. The manual that comes with it is nice and easy to read and use, but skips too many "advanced features". For advanced features you must look at the online .pdf guides.
2. Even with the advanced guide, it is not immediately obvious to me how to set up the machine so it will screen calls as phone or fax. It wants to answer all calls as a fax machine. I need to experiment more with the available (but confusing) settings that should fix this.
I like having a do it all printer but also realized I no longer need or want color. Here's why:
1. Printing photos at home is not what the marketing would like us to believe. Sending photos to Kodak

I bought this for my one-person office, so there's no need for network connectivity. Installation was simple and straightforward on Windoze XP. I have used all the primary functions - copy, scan, fax, print - and I am extremely pleased with the results.
This is a fantastic deal. I have no idea how Canon makes any money on it...

I was shopping around for a general purpose laser printer to replace an older HP Laserjet for a home office and did a lot of research between the Brothers, HP, and Canon printers. The Canon MF4150 has the benefit of dual sided printing and it's very fast. Combined with the copier, fax, and scanning capabilities, I think the price I paid on Amazone with free shipping and no tax was the best value (bought in Feb 07).
The first page comes out within a few seconds after powering on the unit and the double sided printing works really well. The copier feature is great with the sheet feeder so you don't have to lift the cover for each individual sheet like some of the other products in its price range.
After using it for about a month, I'd highly recommend this printer. Hope this helps your decision.

I have used several all-in-ones before, both inject and laser. from brother to HP, this is the best by far. summarize the pro's and con's:
Pro's
1. duplex printing is a great paper saving tool
2. complete silent at standby with fast start up
3. small foot print and compact
4. paper handling is smooth, rarely any paper jam, quite unusual for a cheap all in one under $200
Con's
1. initial menu setting is quick complicated, but just have to do it once, follow the menu
2. cartridge is about $10 more than the compareable HP or Brother ones, considering it doesn't need to replace drum unit, overall cost is about the same
3. no network built in, u got what u pay for.

This could've been a great printer, but Canon really dropped the ball with Mac OS X support. Most of the functionality of the device IS NOT available on Mac OS X. Duplex printing is NOT available. Scanning is NOT available. What's the point of selling a multi-function printer as Mac compatible if the multi-functions are not supported?

I recently purchased this printer in an effort to free up more space in my home office. I replaced my laser printer, scanner and fax with this single compact unit and couldn't be happier. As others have mentioned, the duplex printing feature is a MAJOR plus in my opinion - a feature that they've seemed to include as a "freebie" and adds major points over competitors. The quick start guide was really simple and I was up and running in a matter of minutes.
A super quiet machine when not in use (thanks to the Energy Saving feature), I've used the printing features and the results are timely, crisp, clean pages with seemingly excellent paper handling (no jams so far). It's got many more print options (2 on 1 page, 4 on 2 pages which is really 4 on 1 with the duplex option) and a ton of other cool features and capabilities that aren't listed in the product description. I have sent and received faxes without a problem. Copying is just like using the larger machines: just lift the cover

After purchasing this printer ($195 on Amazon) I found out that adding it to my network requires the Axis 1650 network print server. I already own a print server but it would not work with multifunction printers and it seems no other multifunction print servers will work. (According to Canon and my quick research online.)
The only problem is the Axis 1650 is $180, which is almost as much as the printer itself. The other option is to attach it to a local PC and share it on the network. The would be great but I do not have a PC in the same room.

I bought the Canon 4150 to replace an aging HP LaserJet 5L laser printer and an older and lower end HP Scanjet scanner. I could not be happier, especially considering the price. The printing speed is fantastic, the scanning works well. Duplex printing is a huge plus. Since this printer only has one USB port (no parallel ports), I found it useful to buy an external USB switch for connecting to more than one computer.
The integrated software on the HP was much better, despite being nearly 10 years old, but the HP also cost much more.
If you are in the market for a monochrome, multi-function laser printer, you should seriously consider this. Good price (

I bought this machine 2 weeks ago, after returning the Brother 7820. The Canon MF4150 is the perfect all-in-one machine for a home office. It does everything: faxing, copying, printing (including automatic duplex) and scanning. I like that it allows scanning straight to PDF. It's fairly quiet when it functions, although it uses enough power to cause some flickering of lights. I can overlook that because everything else about the machine is excellent; the print quality is great and it prints very quickly. The automatic feed works perfectly. The machine is very small and compact, too.
The manual contains basic information, and you have to rely on the CD-ROM to reference advanced features of the machine---and there are a LOT of features! It is truly amazing that you can buy a machine with so many features for this price! I am very happy with the Canon MF4150 and would recommend it to anyone looking for a black and white laser all-in-one.

I bought this printer after I found that 1) fewer and fewer places carry toner for my Samsung SF-555P Multi-function printer and 2) I really need duplex printing. This Canon machine is one of the few, if not only, product out there right now with dupex *and* multifunction built into a single monochrome laser unit.
This is a brand new model as of Novermber 2006. I had bought and returned a HP Laserjet 3055 multi-function unit, after I found that it does not have duplex built-in. I almost bought a dupex laser printer from brother, HL-5250DN, for about the same amount of money (~$200).
This Canon unit has energy saver feature so it is very quiet when not in use. I liked the printer driver. It is easy to use and uses the same type of user interface as the one found in my Canon i860 ink printer. And, yes, it has duplex printing!!!!
Since I have only had the printer for a week, I have not used it extensively but evrything seems to work well. Its footprint is bigger than my old samsung
