Puzzle Quest is, without a doubt, the most addictive game I've played on the DS. Great on your own and equally fun with a friend/family member, I can't get enough of this game. The controls are fast and responsive, with occasional touch screen hiccups. The gameplay resembles Bejeweled and the computer opponents are challenging throughout. The RPG element is one of Puzzle Quest's greatest (read: addictive) assets, as evidenced by my lack of sleep this past week. Striving for "just one more level" will keep you up into the wee hours of the morning, or at least until the battery on your DS dies.

Though this game came out of nowhere, with little publicity before release, one can only hope it sells well enough to warrant a sequel. With a little control work, Puzzle Quest could rank up there with Tetris as an all-time puzzling great.

I love puzzle games and I love my rpgs. So when I first read about this game and all the raving reviews, I immediately went out and got a copy for myself.

The game started off pretty cool but then what came along was just frustration beyond words could describe it.

Ok, the mechanism and gameplay are basically throwing in a story to a Bejewelled type of puzzle game. So you match same colour marbles and blah together. Match 3 will make them disappear and 4 or 5 together give you an extra turn. Colour marbles are mana (so to fit in the fantasy rpg theme), skulls are attack, stars are experience and coins are em...coins. Since it is an rpg, of course you need to throw in a bit of level up - especially when you have stars as experience points on the grid. Through level up you can improve your abilities a la Baulder's Gate style and also learn new spells and attack. Sounds cool eh? It is indeed. The concepts are quite cool and full of flexibility. You can even learn your enemies' spells by

I bought this game for my 14 year old daughter before we went on a long trip, hoping to keep her occuppied for a while. She wouldn't put that game down. Unusual for her because she usually gets bored quickly. So, it must be quiet entertaining.

I am not a gamer. I'm in fact a mom who is often known to be nagging at my kids to turn off their game devices. I fell hard for this game, though. I now own my own DS (pink so my son won't steal it) and have repeatedly played Puzzle Quest. I bought it last spring and played it daily until I just yesterday completed battling Lord Bane in the final Quest. I love strategy thinking without the time pressure - so the bejewel like game is interesting enough, but the added layer of increasing levels of opponents and spells kept me coming back to see how the game play changed. Too much fun.

At this point in the DS life cycle, there aren't many good RPG titles available to play. PQ fills in some of the void with a solid RPG title that partners gameplay using an interesting puzzle twist. The RPG elements of the game are surprisingly deep and will keep fans of the genre interested for awhile with it's addictive leveling-up attributes. Also, this game does a good job at being "available time diverse". If you only have a few minutes to beat one puzzle and put one microstep forward in the single player campaign, you can do that and have your progress saved. If you want to stay glued to it for hours (like I did yesterday on a long plane ride), then it will keep your long-term interest. The game is definitely fun, but has some drawbacks as others mentioned below. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros
*Deep RPG elements
*Addictive game play
*Long, deep, and interesting story/campaign
*Decent graphics for its intended purpose
*Excellent utilization of the touch screen

Cons
*No variety

I enjoy this game; that's why I ordered it. It's a fun fusion of puzzle games (like Bejeweled) and an RPG. I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys games that require a little bit of thought.

But shame on me for trying to find the lowest price; Overstock took over 3 weeks to get me the product. What they do is ship it UPS to a postal distribution center, where it can sit for days or weeks before it's delivered. Sometimes this works out; often, it means a huge delay.

So, yes. the game is good. But beware the shipping policies if you want the product in a timely manner!

When I first heard of this game, I thought it would be heavy on the puzzle, and light on the RPG. Fortunately, I was dead wrong. This title boasts an impressive depth of gameplay on both fronts.

As an RPG, Puzzle Quest is a single-character adventure. You choose from 4 character classes, each unique in spells and personality. As you advance in the game, you will learn new spells (both from your class advancement and from captured enemies), acquire a large variety of equipment (weapons, shields, armor, and accessories), create different buildings in your citadel and in captured cities, team up with various characters and mounts that will give you bonuses, and search for special runes that will allow you to craft new equipment.

The puzzle side of the game comes in mostly when doing combat. It plays out like Bejeweled, where you swap pieces on a grid to match 3 or more, with new pieces falling from the top of the screen to replace the matched ones. Different colored symbols will give

This is obviously a fresh idea, combining a role-playing game experience (which usually involves fairly uninteresting combat mechanics) and a casual-style puzzle game (very similar to Bejeweled). You create your character by picking one of four classes (druid, wizard, warrior, knight), each of which has different specializations. You then set off on a series of adventures, traveling around an increasingly expansive landscape, visiting new points of interest, and receiving new quests (up to four active quests at one time).

When combat takes place (which is pretty frequent, and largely the point of the game) the view switches from the map to the puzzle board, which is a grid of tiles of various types. Most of the tiles are colored dots, although there are also gold coins, purple stars and skulls. The object is to take turns with your opponent, trying to swap two adjacent tiles to line up 3, 4 or 5 matching tiles (even better if you can set up a combination or cascade of matches). Matching

In the video game world, the puzzle genre and the RPG genre are like apples and oranges. Both are delicious fruits to be sure, yet they're two completely different genres. Certainly genres that no one thought could ever actually come together. Yet here stands Puzzle Quest Challenge of the Warlords. A hybrid of the puzzle and RPG genre, and the hybrid works! Puzzle fans and RPG fans alike will absolutely love this game.

You'll start the game by choosing a profession. A warrior, druid, knight or something like that. And as you go through the game, you'll discover there are tons of RPG elements in play here. You'll traverse worlds, visit towns, collect items and equipment, and most important of all: you'll battle, and this is where Puzzle Quest truly shines.

The only puzzle game which comes to mind to compare this to is Bejeweled, a game several of you have probably played on your PC or cellphone several times over. You're given an 8x8 grid where you'll swap two tiles in order to

If you've done any research on Puzzle Quest, you know it's a fantasy RPG where combat is done in a "match 3" Bejeweled style puzzle game. That's a good summary, but it doesn't do the game justice - the fusion of two different games is complete and total, making an RPG whose gameplay, though familiar, is done in a completely different manner than we've come to expect.

At the core of the game you create a character from one of four classes. Moving around on a stylus-guided map, you travel to various areas, get quests, and battle assorted monsters. The combat is done on a grid of icons you line up - skulls (which you line up for a physical attack), coins (to get bonus gold), stars (to get bonus experience), and mana gems (to get one of four kinds of mana), and wildcards. Special abilities let you go beyond simple line-up-the icons to do damage, alter the puzzle board's contents, affect your opponent, and more. You can figure out cascading combos that are just as satisfying as any fighting

First off, if you're reading this, go download the PC demo and form your own opinion. With that said here is what I thought of the game.

Upon hearing about this game I was obviously intrigued so I downloaded the afformentioned demo. I was expecting a really cut and paste RPG with a silly puzzle element to it, but lo and behold I was blown away by the additional depth they put in to this game. It's still no Morrowind or anything but it wasn't just wander around, fight, wander around, fight... You can build up your fortress kind of like you can in Heros of Might and Magic which enable certain features like being able to capture and train mounts, research spells, and other features which I will leave to surprise for you. There's plenty of equipment to find and utilize which I didn't really understand how it was going to play in to a puzzle battle but trust me it does and it works well. Upon leveling up you choose where your stats go which will affect the potency of the puzzle items
