BEWARE:
I bought a Sandisk Extreme IV from AMAZON and it would
not work properly and finally went dead completely.
I contacted Sandisk and they absolutely documented my card
as a FAKE, not an authentic Sandisk. I really expected
better than this from AMAZON! I guess I am stuck. Below
is the actual response from Sandisk.
Dear Mark,
Thank you for contacting Sandisk. We have received your email with photos. Unfortunately the photos show that the card is not an authentic Sandisk card.
Take card back to vendor and inform them of our decision.
Best regards,
Segundo

Well, I've seen some dumb things before, but when Amazon allows an afiliate vendor to sell counterfeit ExtremeIV 8GB cards, now that is dumb. Especially, since the vendor was brand new to them (obviously not vetted). I bought the card from these guys just to see if it was going to be fake or not. And sure enough as soon as I got it I called SanDisk and what do you know, counterfeit as a 3 dollar bill. About the only thing that could be dumber is for SanDisk not to find a solution for this problem and lose many potential customers because of the uncertainty. BTW These are really convincing fakes, including the high quality retail packaging, the software included, even a little zipper pouch that says SanDisk on it. Maybe it will be best not to buy expensive SanDisk for some time to come.

Upgraded to this card from my Extreme III 4GB card as I started shooting with a new Canon body. The extra capacity and speed is valuable if you shoot a lot of RAW at high resolution and high speed, like sports. There's a noticeable difference between when I run out of buffer space with this card and its smaller/slower cousins.
On older cameras, make sure they can handle an 8GB card. Also, if you have a slow camera, it may not be able to take advantage of the extra speed, and an Extreme III for a lower price will perform just the same.
Of course, when you have such a large and fast card, make sure you have a reader that can keep up with it, or it will be a long wait at that end. I use the Extreme CF Firewire Reader and it downloads at 25MB/s once I figured out all the right connections (see my review for that product).
