Harman Kardon HD 990 CD Player
High-performance CD player with sound that simply can’t be matched. To most serious listeners, CD playback remains a mandatory ingredient of any home entertainment system. And as the Harman Kardon HD 990 proves, it should be. As an especially well-engineered CD player, the HD 990 possesses a full array of sophisticated sound technologies – including a high-resolution synchronization (HRS) link for jitter-free playback and Real-Time Linear Smoothing (RLS III) for spacious, richly detailed sound. As both a high performer and outperformer compared to all Harman Kardon CD players before it, the HD 990 elevates the CD-listening experience – thanks in part to its two high-performance digital-to-analog converters, optimized for precision playback. It’s also quite versatile, as evidenced by its compatibility with most recordable or erasable disc formats, including CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 with ID3-tag support. Designed in part to accompany the powerful Harman Kardon 150-watt HK 990 stereo amplifier, the more

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Attractive Design
I would recommend this cd player to anyone interested in redbook playback. Using it with the HK 990, it delivers sound that is uncompromised, giving up nothing to my reference systems. Performance in a step up via the special digital link but other outputs are only marginally less refined. It is a highly enjoyable cd player to listen to.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Great Sound
This my not be the best cd player, but it is the best I have ever had. At this price you can not go wrong. You would have to spend three to four times as much to get this kind of sound. I have four other players to compare it with and none of them even come close. My other players range in price from $500.00 to $1800.00. If you want to see what you have been missing, buy this player from JR.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: AVR 3600 remote works too, Low height, Superb Sound
All it takes is a few seconds to know you're listening to something special.<br ><br >We have a one year old H-K AVR 3600 powering Ess speakers. We thought our old changer, also Harman Kardon, sounded good. All it took was a few moments with the new CD player to make us revisit that idea. <br ><br >The HK HD 990 produces clean, clear, noise free sound. We decided to use the analog out of the HD 990, rather than the coaxial out, to enjoy the outstanding performance of the Analog Devices D to A converters. <br ><br >We are now hearing things in recordings that were obscured by older technology. Whether you listen to rock or classical, if the sound was on the master at the studio or concert, you'll hear it from the HD 990.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Attractive Design, Great Sound
I had to return this unit for new ones twice. Great sound but it skips on almost every disk I played on it. I found myself listening and waiting for the next skip. It seems to be a design flaw. Finally gave up on it and got an Onkyo C-S5vl. It sounds great and so far doesn't skip. I am a big fan of Harman Kardon, especially their receivers but this one really disappointed me.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Great Sound
Many hifi reviewers give rave reviews about the sound quality of the Harman Kardon HD 990. It indeed did not disappoint me in this regard. This CD player reproduces very detailed music with great clarity. The sound stage is wonderful. However, the build quality of this product is very poor. <br ><br >The first unit I received had a bad digital optical jack on the back. So I exchanged it with a second unit. The second unit vibrated when playing CDs. The vibration was so severe that you could hear a loud buzz. I then put the same CDs into my Sony and Marantz for testing. Absolutely no vibration at all. I ended up returning the second unit as well.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Attractive Design, Durable, Great Sound
Plain and simple: this CD player sounds great! Single player - nothing you don't need. Just lots of nuance. A/B it with you old player if you want a good laugh.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Attractive Design, Doesn't Skip, Durable, Easy To Set Up, Great Sound
I have this unit in the kitchen with my HK 3480 receiver. I didn't want a dvd/cd player seeing that I will only be listening to music. I also wanted a single disk player where the quality goes into the mechanics of the single disk player instead of multi function/disk transport systems. Simple, yet of high quality and affordable. It doesn't hurt that it works well (visually) with the 3480. I do find that HK makes remotes that are hard to read (small, light grey function labels, barely visible without a light and reading glasses). Color coded buttons on a few frequently used buttons would be nice. Other than that, it seems like a unit that should last a long while.

Harman Kardon HD990 CD Player with RLS III (Black)
Pros: Attractive Design, Doesn't Skip, Easy To Set Up, Great Sound
Finally, Harman Kardon brings its legendary HD 990 to the United States (yes, there are some people in the US who still care about hi fidelity sound). The performance is absolutely phenomenal; it just doesn't get any better than this. The overall design fits in with HK's minimalistic aesthetic, with curved edges, a brushed gunmetal and glossy black finish, and no noticeable buttons unless you're really up close. The tray opens and closes with a solid feel that seems pretty durable. Overall, it's a well made and beautiful product that performs excellently.
