I bought this to replace my five year old HP OfficeJet 7000 series all-in-one, which I had never liked, from day one. This instantly blew the pants off that HP beast that cost three times as much when I bought it. To Wit:
1. Print Quality- No contest. My Canon prints look better than prints from my HP color laser printer. Prints on photo paper are astounding in their detail and depth. No banding, which is more than HP could ever claim.
2. Design- I'm not embarrassed to have this sitting in my office, as it is extremely well designed and attractive. Nice features include folding mechanisms for all three paper entry and exit areas (bypass, ADF, and print tray). These help keep the dust out, and keep the machine looking good.
3. Fit and Finish- Everything is just right, and it doesn't make creaking and groaning noises when the cover is opened, unlike my HP.
4. Quietness of Operation- I can hardly tell it is on
5. Speed- I don't think the paper ever slows down, on standard

I've had this printer for about a year, so I have some extended experience with it. It prints and copies well. I have only faxed once, which worked, and I haven't scanned anything yet.
Here's the problem. After a month of owning the printer, we kept getting an error message saying to check the ink cartridge. Well, the cartridge was new, so I contacted Canon support since our printer wouldn't work with the error message. Apparently there's a problem with the chip on some of their cartridges that prevents the printer from being able to read them correctly. Canon shipped us a new cartridge, and that fixed the problem.
I didn't have anymore problems until I recently replaced one of the black ink cartridges. The same problem arose. Apparently Canon hasn't or can't fix the problem with some of their ink cartridges being defective, and you basically either buy a defective one in the store or you don't.
Another MAJOR problem - if there is an error message with the ink cartridges,

The print quality was great but canon made the machine ultra sensitive to the ink sensors. They don't want anyone using non-canon ink but in the process of creating this sensitivity a lot of unnecessary errors come that lock up the entire machine. While it works expect to spend hundreds of dollars on ink. Don't buy this machine!

I've been seriously surprised by the performance of my new Canon Pixma all-in-one. Given that it's several hundred dollars cheaper than the HP it's replacing, I really didn't expect much.
I'm happy to have been wrong.
Not that it's perfect - it's not!
The quality of photo printing is just so-so, good enough for proofs, but not of the quality the HP routinely produced. And the Canon is significantly slower than the HP.
On the other hand,
The cost of ink is significantly less than that of the HP:
The printer is much quieter than the HP;
The printer is smaller, returning valuable desk space for use; and,
The duplexer appears to run glitchless and smooth, something my HP could never boast. Important? Oh, yes. When you print large runs every month, you can save trees by using a duplexer.
Suggestions to Canon:
Make it so that I can operate every function from my computer OR from the machine, depending on where I happen to be. I really don't want to run back and forth because

I've only had my printer/all-in-one for about 6 weeks but am extremely satisfied. The pictures are outstanding and the colors are dead-on. I've used the scanner once and it is very user friendly and easy to use. I have already recommended this printer/all-in-one to several people. The other great thing is the price for the ink--at amazon all combined were about $72--not bad considering the outstanding quality of the print--compare this to HP or Epson and you'll find this a great deal!! And the amount of ink used for the pictures I've printed is also great (not a lot of ink used!). I've had both HP and Epson and this printer/all-in-one is much better in ALL regards. You will find this machine to be larger than the usual printer--it will take up as much space as a VGA computer monitor. I would highly recommed this to anyone looking for a great device and not spending a lot of money.

I am very pleased with my new printer, and thrilled with the service at Overstock!!! My purchase arrived so quickly, and at a more than reasonable rate. Thanks!!

I purchased the Canon MP530 and have had very good results so far. All the bad reviews about the ink cartridges are by people who gave up on the printer without a simple Google search to fix the problems. You can disable the Print Monitor all together so that the printer will work no matter how low the ink levels are. This is helpful when you refill the ink cartridges yourself, as I have done. Canon would love you buy their tanks every time they go low, but you can refill them yourself; but you must turn off the print monitor because the printer thinks it's tanks are empty even though you've refilled them.
Do it this way: 1) go to "maintenance" tab on print properties 2) select "View Printer Status" from the bottom 3) Click "Option" and deselect "Enable Status Monitor" -- That Simple!
A minor annoyance that doesn't warrant a one-star rating from other users. I really like this printer!

sorry to poop on everyone's good reviews, but i've had nothing but bad luck. i got one and the first print was always messed up, it wouldn't print yellow on half the print, so i'd end up printing 2 or 3 just to get a good one. i returned that one for another of the same, and last night when i tried to print something, the automatic print door was jammed and wouldn't pop open like it usually does. my print just jammed in the bay until i could pry the door open. after lugging the giant (and heavy) thing back into my car, i realized i'm going to try something different next time!

I do like this printer very much. The prints are nice and pictures are crisp. Also, awesome software comes with this printer. The printer itself is loaded with options, dual page, also has a tray where I have photo paper so no need to swap paper out. I like this printer alot!
BAD: Fax. seems it doesn't have a good mode for fax. I had an old brother MFC5100c that handled faxes great. I don't get faxes often, but when I'm dealing with something I may get a few during a small time window. I had the brother printer set up on automatic.
If I was home and the phone rings: I pick up...if it's a voice call I talk, if fax I hang up and fax would auto pick up.
If I was away and phone rings: answering machine picks up if voice they leave a message, if fax the answering machine would hang up and fax would pick up.
Now on this printer/fax I set it to manual. I have to know and expect a fax is coming, pick up the phone connected to the fax (must have a phone connected to this printer)

Canon is very clever. They have now put smartchips in their ink tanks so you can't refill them or replace them with generic ink tanks. The chip knows that it was on an empty tank and won't let you transfer it to a full generic tank either. The printer won't print, thinks it's out of ink and won't budge. Generic ink is about $7 to top off all colors. Canon smarchip tanks about $70.00 for a full set. I figure that's about 30 cents a page to print. I will never buy another Canon. If I sold you a brand new Lexus for only $20,000 but it would only run on fuel you had to buy from me at $30.00 per gallon, would that be fair? There must be a special place in hell for those clever, greedy little buggers.

-Duplex jams every time. Have yet been able to get it to work.
?Sometimes it says Printing on the screen and feeds in a sheet of paper, but doesn't ever print. Not sure if this is the printer or the fact that I have it hooked up to a Wireless Print Server.

This printer is our second all-in-one made by canon. Our first all-in-one was the canon F80. It served us well for 5 years.
We recently purchased the MP530 and are extremely happy with it. This machine does a great job printing, copying, faxing and scanning. A great all-in-one. This printer also does an excellent job printing photos on photo paper. We do have a designated photo printer...Canon Pixma iP6600D...on which I print our photos. But, the MP 530 does nearly as nice of a job!
I have called Canon tech support because I had a slight problem with scanning. Tech support was VERY helpful and we resolved my problem. The problem wasn't with the scanner, it was that I had 2 USB cords connected together to reach the MP530, therefore the scanner wasn't getting enough power to scan with. While on the phone with tech support, I reconnected with only one cord and the problem was fixed. So, it was my problem, not the printers.
More good news...in the 11 years that I have owned

My 9 year old HP was dying, and my office said that they'd pay for an all-in-one for me. I reserached a lot and it was between this one, an HP (I had always owned HPs) or a Dell. And I selected this one because it has more nozzles for better picture printing for a great price of $158.
I am VERY happy with the unit. Packing was great; undamaged in transit. Instructions are clear enough, albeit not super. Menu system is also easy enough to use, but the 2-line LCD screen reminds me of my first fax machine 10 years ago. (The Dell had a full 5 line color screen.)
This Canon looks SLICK; very stylish. The front door automatically opens when it starts printing -- like a kid I will never get over how cool that is. It takes up paper as its printing, so it literally prints a page and then goes right to the next one (vice my HP would take up one page, finish printing a page and spit it out, then take up the next sheet, etc.). It's very quick and the fax and copy functions work with one button.

I've had this Canon MP530 for over a month and I am absolutely delighted. I bought it to replace an Epson Ink Jet printer, which was terribly prone to paper jams. This Canon does more that I expected (even faxes in color!)and operates easily. I like the features that don't rely on a computer - copy, fax -- and the dual paper sources. Generally I use plain b&w printing the most and this machine handles that quietly and efficiently, with very good quality printing. Color printing/copying is crisp and accurate. I don't print photos often but was pleased with the tests I did when learning to use the machine. Scanning was easy and the OCR software that came with it is way better than what I had tried previously. Fax works easily though I can't set it up with our answering service (not an answer machine - that works fine, but we have a live service and the MP530 hangs up after determining that it is not a fax call ... there may be a way around this but I haven't found it yet).

I bought this printer for my mother and she loved it so I decided to buy me one and I love it. It is very easy to use and has all the features that I need. My pictures print out Excellently. I scan in a lot of photos and art work of my children and it scans in perfectly. It is fast, quiet and easy to use. It really is the best All-In-One printer that you can buy. I shopped around and Amazon was the least expensive and had free shipping.

Summary:
If your goal is to print pictures you can get faster/better printers. If your goal is true multifunction and cheap initial cost and low 'cost per page' -- this one is great and does pictures 'OK' too.
Pros:
* Cost per page back ink is on par with laser printer (at the time I purchased)
* Cost for the printer at Amazon was $50 off the price of anywhere else (at the time I purchased)
* Cost per page for color ink is cheaper than cost per page in black and white ink (got this info from a computer review magazine comparing multiple printers -- I can't find it online or I would put a link here -- sorry)
* Duplexing uses the cheaper color ink even if in black and white mode (I think this is because the color ink is designed to dry faster so it won't smear on the inner rollers when duplexing)
* I *think* draft mode also uses the cheaper color ink. (I think the more expensive black ink is reserved for the higher DPI needed for sharp text)
* paper tray keeps the dust off of your

Recently, the HP T45 Multifunction machine that I had relied on for many (7) years, began to make the death rattles and errors associated with imminent demise. Also, since it hasn't been made for many years, the ink cartridges were becoming a bit of a hassle to find - and, though findable on Ebay, etc, they tended to be old ones in their original packaging and not especially reliable. Therefore, it was time to find a new all-in-one for my home and small office use. I searched out professional reviews, compared features and prices and, of course, consulted with my fellow consumer reviewers. All said and done, I decided on this Canon Pixma MP530 and am pleased to report that, as of the first week or two, I am quite pleased with each of it's functions, printing, copying, scanning and FAXing and have found some fault in only four areas. They are 1) it is VERY noisy and shakes a bit as it operated; 2) the setup is more complex than I am used to and though I am not a novice, it took me almost

I am pleased with my purchase of this machine and I think it represents good value for the money. I really like the design of the machine (something I have never said of a office machine before) and its look and feel. I am impressed by the many thoughtful touches. Here are three that others have not pointed out:
(1) I live in a dusty climate and I am really grateful that you can close up almost all the entry ways into the machine and it still works. If the paper outlet tray is closed it will automatically open. There is a bottom tray for paper so you don't have to use the top loading tray.
(2) There are two seprate black ink holders, one for use in color printing and the other for regular printing.
(3) The machine coallates!
(4) You can use the copy function w/o you computer being on.
Having said this, the machine is not perfect.
(1) I was seriously bugged by the duplex feature on the machine. Whether scanning or copying you have to intervene to rotate the paper. In addition,

This product was everything that it says that it is. It does everything and the ink takes forever to run out. The only thing that I will mention is that buy the 4 ink cartridge and the large ink cartride that comes seperate. The black large cartridge runs out first and must be replaced then the printer uses the small well. I tried to bypass this and it didn't work. It is worth it to have it in our home. Great for pics, copies, printing and the fax is good also.

I am always very skeptical when buying new computer related items but this Pixma All-In-One is GREAT! Photos are as good as, or better than, the ones I get from my little PictureMate and I think it is great too! The options for sizes are wonderful with this printer and functions are easy to use. It is fast, quiet and print is clear and crisp. I printed 7 calendars at Christmas time with half page full color photos on each page plus many many pages of plain text before any of the color tanks that came with the machine even started to flash low ink warnings. We had no trouble getting the FAX options to work, although we don't use it for faxes, at least we know it's there if we need it, so that wasn't even a concern for us. The only bad thing I can say is, as I read in at least one review before I purchased this, it does sometimes bump us offline when we turn it on AFTER we are already in a program or on a web page. It does not ALWAYS do it but it is a small annoyance when it happens,

We love everything about this printer except the ink costs.
Built-in duplexing is great, dual paper feed is great, photo quality is great.
I've read that the per-page costs aren't high, but when they do finally run out, the inks will force us into bankruptcy.

The Canon PIXMA MP530 Printer/Copier/Scanner/Fax is pretty much everything I expected. Though all-in-ones typically must compromise in one of their functions, this one does pretty well. Things I like: it's very quiet, it does duplex in printing, and has good software support applications, though they take a lot space (100 MB?) and took a while to load. It is relatively big, but as compact as it could be for an all-in-one I think. Considering I was living without a printer for a month or so without much problem, it's amazing how much I've used all its functions because they are so easy to use both with my iMac and my PC laptop.

Before I buy I do my homework and this printer definitely delivers it's moneys worth and then some. I'm not supper savvy on the FAX part but I have been able to both receive and send faxes with relative ease. The scanner is wonderful and comes with some really good applications that convert scaned pages into text. The only but is that you should use windows to print photos. Because the cannon program just doesn't cut it in the photo department. The scanner does really beautiful copies of already printed photos. It's up to you what quality and how much hard drive space you want to use for the scanned photos. This is a wonderful printer and comes with the first cartiges of ink. But you will need to buy the large black one more often than the color ones. So my advice is buy extra and shop for them as well. Plus the samples are really small, 3x5 so if you plan on printing photos right away buy paper as well. Plus it does not come with the high speed cable. I had two already so I didn't need

The unit arrived well in advance of estimated arrival time and was easy to set up. I have used all phases except fax and color photos and so far I love it! Copies have been easy, crisp and fast as were all the tax forms I did recently for the whole family. Scanner is easy to use as well- unlike my previous standalone Microtec. I would highly recommend the unit based on my experience. The only downside is the cost of ink-I had to replace the black at $17.99 a pop but that seems to be the case with all major printer brands. The price was the best I found anywhere--$156 - no tax - and including shipping. [...].

There are 3 big problems with copying you should know before you buy (I wish I did):
1. You cannot use the Auto Document Feeder (sheet feeder) when copying or scanning with any setting in auto (exposure, size, etc). It does not make any of that clear, so if you find it refuses the auto doc feeder, reset everything to manual :-(
2. Black duplex printing uses color cartridges for one of the sides, so uses the more expensive ink. That is, it does not use the blank ink for both sides.
3. Copying speeds are much slower than the blurb implies. If you make 10 copies of one page, it is as fast as they say. If you copy multiple pages, each one takes much much longer, does the scan, and then does the print. Also, if any setting is in auto mode, it does a two pass scan (one to check the page), and that takes a really long time.

This multi-fucntional printer works great. Print, scan, fax, copy for normal office needs all work as well as the large Xerox multi-fuctional machines at the office and you all know all well those machine works. The document feeder works good for letter size paper, but smaller size paper tends to occasionally cause problems if the paper guides are not set correctly. Also copying large legal size paper sometime causes problems, the machine sometime cuts off the image at letter size. But overall for a personal office use, it's excellent!!
Color document output is outstanding, colors are uniform and well saturated even on plain paper. Output on plain paper rivals most color laser printers, with no noticeable bleeding or banding.
I am a pretty serious photography guy, I have encountered some slight problems with color photo output. There're at least 5 color profiles that came with the printer driver but none of these have very well documented instruction on how and when to use each.

I read all the reviews on every all in one available for purchase. The 530 was chosen and I paid $151.00 delivered from Amazon. This machine works perfectly and was a snap to set up and get operating. The only complaint I could possibly have is that the manual was a little confusing on making copies. I just ignored the manual, hit the copy button and received a perfect reproduction! This sucker is neat! Hard to believe that it only cost $151.00. Those that have given negative reviews must have received a lemon which is likely very rare. I love my 530 and appreciate all the positive reviews which helped me decide to purchase it.
