Losing USB end caps can be quite annoying, not to mention the inconvenience of taking the cap on and.. more

Transcend 2GB JetFlash 500 USB 2.0 Flash Drive - 2 GB - USB - External
I bought three Transcend 16 GB JetFlash 500 Retractable USB 2.0 Flash Drives on sale here. The product descriptions on Amazon and at Transcend claimed they were supported by my Mac OS. If I attempted to transfer data in lots of more than about 20 MB the flash drives froze and the computer crashed. In lots of about 20 MB or less the data was accepted and could be read and re-transmitted. To fill 16 GB in 20 MB increments would require 800 actions on my part and of course some files are more than 20 MB. An IT professional reformatted them for me, but there was no change. As an afterthought I reexamined an information card shipped with the devices. In very fine print it said, "Jetflash Elite works only in Windows" underneath the statement "System requirements: ... ... Mac 9.0 or later ... ...". Is what Amazon sold different from what was described? If so, why no flood of complaints from other Mac users? My low rating of the drive is because it was incompatible with my computer even though the product descriptions of Amazon and Transcend assured compatibility. Amazon's information comes from outside sources and because they accepted return of the drives I am not displeased with them. The misrepresentation comes from Transcend. Based on the positive evaluations I read before my purchase it seems likely that if I ran Windows on a PC I would have been satisfied with the flash drives and rated them accordingly. Under the circumstances I cannot do so. In passing, the retractable nature of the Transcend drive has its downside. There is no cap to lose, but the uncovered USB connector is prone to collecting dust from the room or lint from a pocket.

Transcend 2GB JetFlash 500 USB 2.0 Flash Drive - 2 GB - USB - External
I needed a 16GB Flash Drive for the Xbox 360 4GB that I was purchasing from Amazon. This one had good reviews, was presented as a very fast drive and was offered at a good price. (I did not see the other reviews here at the time when I purchased this that indicated a problem using this drive with an Xbox). I was pleased to find that the Xbox initially accepted and configured the drive with no problems. I saved my game progress for several days until one day when my Xbox couldn't find my saved game. What's more, it did not recognize the drive as being configured AT ALL!! It was as if I had just inserted the drive for the first time!! I knew that Microsoft had a "licensed" flash drive made by Sandisk, but that drive was 3X the cost of the Transcend drive. Naturally, there is no list of other "Microsoft approved" flash drives, so I was forced to purchase their licensed product (at a local brick-and-mortar store). Thanks Micro$shaft!! The one-star review is for Xbox compatibility only. I did not need this flash drive for any purpose other than with the Xbox, as I already own two large capacity portable drives. I did not use it with my PC to be able to comment on the speed. I returned this drive and was very satisfied with Amazon's fast, no-hassle return policy.

DON'T BUY IF YOU'RE PLANNING TO USE IT WITH XBOX 360. It works fine at first, but the data corrupts after a couple of times using it with the Xbox 360. Its happened twice in one day.

very handy flash drive. the speed is fast and it is very reliable; have not had any problems with saving or retrieving files from it. also very nice that the metal part can be tucked in so it doesn't get damaged when i just throw it in my bag. definitely a good buy.

Transcend 2GB JetFlash 500 USB 2.0 Flash Drive - 2 GB - USB - External
I purchased this flash drive during the gold box special, the price was the one I attracted to, not the appearance or functionality. The retractable part does kind of bother me: even when the device is full extended, is still feel weak (vs the non retractable flash drive), don't feel it's fully locked in position tightly. May be just a personal preference. This device, as other noticed, looks similar to Sandisk products, but don't they all look alike anyway? Performance wise, I don't feel any better or worse, faster or slower than any other flash drives I use, simply because I don't compare them: I'm no waiting for it to finish transfer, I'll just come back to it later! Patience! Size wise, 16GB is plenty of space to store lots of things, but hey, more the merrier, right? For the price I paid vs the storage space I got, I guess it's a fair buy. One little thing I did notice, the device did not come with any little metal ring or lanyard to attach onto the space provided on the drive: means you can not attach this device unless you have something of your own to attach this flash drive to! (Unlike Sandisk provided a metal ring for attachment!) Last comment: (more like a question for the some or all flash drive manufacturers) Why only use certain color to represent certain drives' space? In this case, green color is for 16GB, purple stays with 32GB, light blue is for 8GB, who came up with this ideas?? So if I want a 16GB, I need to stay with GREEN only...... wow... Green is really good for 16GB??? How you figured that one out? All by yourself or someone helped you??

I've had several Transcend flash drives and find them to be quite good and fast. This flash has lots of room for storage and a free software download that gives you all sorts of extras, including a place to save passwords, a browser and a whole lot more --- plus easy syncing of data. Not much you can say about storage other than it's fast and dependable with free software to help make your life and work easier. It's a nice looking little unit and I really like the way you simply slide the connection out. Highly recommended. -- Susanna K. Hutcheson
