Terk Amplified AM/FM Indoor Antenna
I bought the Terk on the advice of friends so that I could reach the closest NPR station, 65 miles away, on the ocean. It's the "on the ocean" that has been the problem.
Terk needed an adaptor for the plug-in which Radio Shack supplied in 10 seconds. Works great.

Terk Amplified AM/FM Indoor Antenna
My office is a metal framed brick building so FM reception is "sketchy" at best. The wire antenna that came with me executive stereo just wasnt worthy. Barely pulled in Local stations. With the Terk I am able to pull in FM from 100 miles away. Thanks, I think, to the fact that it is amplified and adjustable. This antenna was the best $19.00 I have ever spent. It is made by Audiovox if that matters. The fact of the matter is that this antenna is well worth the money. Buy it if you live in a fringe reception area and enjoy clear real stereo FM broadcasts.

This antenna is a good buy for the money. I have a sharp xlmp131 which had horrible reception for am and fm stations. I bought this product from a local store in town and tried it out. It improved my
reception of weak signals and cleared static from my strong ones. It also amplified the am so that i could recieve stations I never used to get!

Pros: Elegant design and superior technology
Cons: Wish the cable was longer than about 3ft. But other than that nothing else.

Don't buy this. I bought it to specifically pull in an AM station and I got better reception from the cheap little loop antenna that came with the stereo. Adjusting the gain dial did nothing. It's going back to the store tomorrow.

Terk Amplified AM/FM Indoor Antenna
My father has one of these, and over the course of a recent move, I helped him reinstall his Bang & Olufsen stereo system. He was getting poor FM reception, so I connected his Terk antenna, but it didn't improve the signal. There was a lot of noise and distortion, and the receiver couldn't seem to get a lock on any local stations. I didn't understand the problem, and at first blamed the receiver. But I really couldn't believe a $5,000 piece of electronics could be that bad, even if it was 20 year old.

I moved the antenna, same reception. I changed the gain, same reception. I unplugged it from the wall, same reception. Finally, I disconnected the antenna entirely from the receiver, and the FM didn't get any worse. Well, that pretty much proves the thing is doing nothing aside from taking up living room space to me.

Well, it's my Dad's antenna and he got it a few years ago, so we're not getting a refund. I went and bought a simple wire dipola antenna from Radio Shack for $6 and at least

I was fooled. I thought, "Oh, a vertically polarized, amplified antenna ought to work pretty well, at least a little better than the antenna built into the power cord of my tabletop radio." Well, folks, it doesn't. In a few minutes, you can make a very simple passive dipole antenna (i.e., a hunk of wire, basically) with a piece of 300-ohm flat twin-lead wire (you know, the stuff that's flat with two wires about a 1/4" apart in molded plastic...goes for about a dime a foot) that works better for FM. I know because I did a side-by-side comparison between the Terk and my homebrew dipole...the dipole pulled in the station I wanted in stereo while the Terk antenna could only get me a noisy mono signal at any gain setting. As a radio hobbyist (licensed ham radio operator), I am ashamed to admit that I fell for this one, so please don't tell anyone.

Terrible. Tried several positions (flat and upright), nothing seemed to improve reception. May as well not have been plugged in at all. Let's say the 1 star is for the lighted green dial on the front, since I can't give it zero stars...
