Worth spending the extra $ for the S4000. Battery holds charge for weeks, pictures are crisp and well lit in all enviroments. The smile detection system adds a delay in taking photo but is a great picure. Navigating the touchscreen menu is a little tricky at first, but gets easier after practice.

I originally bought another camera for my daughter that seemed to have all the required features she wanted but after receiving it, she didn't like it. She really wanted a camera with a touch screen. The Vivitar's touch screen is NOT a true full touch screen. I ended up returning the other camera and purchased this one instead. She absolutey loves this Nikon Coolpix and has been using it constantly. This camera is everything it states it is. [...]

This camera really sucks. It takes forever to focus in any mode you're in, and when it finally does take the picture, it's fuzzy. So disappointed. I've had this camera for nine months and would really like to return it, but not sure if that's possible after so long. Might just try to sell it. This is the last Nikon I will buy.

I bought this camera at best buy back in febuary, not knowing about the reviews on it. After 2 months of using it, it just completely died. The lens wont come out and it wont even come on. I spoke with someone at Nikon and they wanted me to pay for the repairs which im sure would have been equal or close to the price i paid for the camera. Even though this is an internal problem with the camera.<br />Stay away from the camera, you will be wasting your money.

Say far away from all Nikon products. My camera failed exaclty as many other's who have posted reviews on the internet. Nikon wants me to pay to have it repaired and it is not damaged just an internal failure of the camera. This is an ongoing issue with Nikon. They are a total and complete throw away. Buyer beware.

My canon camera finally conked out after 10 years and my husband bought me this one to replace it. I love it. It practically does everything itself. Fits in the palm of your hand so you can walk down road snapping pictures without anyone even knowing what you are doing. I put a couple on here to show you how vivid they are. I am an amateur when it comes to photography but I thought these came out great...so I give full credit to the camera. I certainly never took that good a pictures with the other one. It also has different settings to make it easier...like for snow, sunset, darkness, portrait, landscape, sports, etc. And the little video does great too. Unbelievable that one little camera can do all this and cost a third of what my canon cost 10 years ago. Very easy to install the software but doesn't have a lot of directions in the booklet that comes with it. There is a disc but it doesn't have a lot of information either. Actually you don't need to know much though. Once you start playing with it, you learn it pretty quick. It will literally store hundreds of pictures before you have to delete them out for more space. What a great bargain!

I LOVE THIS CAMERA!!! It's So Petite And It Takes Crystal Clear Pics! I Was Debating Whether To Get The Silver or Plum One And I'm Glad I Got The Plum One, It Looks Very Feminine. The One Thing That I Didn't Really Like Is The User Manual, That It's On CD. Oh Well, I Guess You Can Print Out, Right? But It's Something Like 136 Pages or Something Like That To Print Out. I'm Going To Have To Buy Another Printer Cartridge To Be Able To Print The Whole Manual Out. Well, I Was Ecstatic When My Camera Arrived (Amazon Is The Fastest!!! :) The Second Box That The Camera Came In (The Nikon Coolpix S4000 Box) Was Just Gorgeous And I Just Had A Feeling This Was Going To Be Very Nice! I Pretty Much Understood Everything Except The Audio/Video Cable. I Didn't Know What This Was For. Anyway, I Hooked Up My Camera To Be Charged For The First Time And Everything Went Great (I Was Worried I Might Not Do It Right Since The Directions Are Mixed Up But I Understood Them Anyway. So, My Review of This Camera Is Definitely A Positive One, I'm Glad I Decided To Get This Camera That Stuck On Me Since Day One! (lol). Definitely Highly Recommended!

This is my 5th compact digital camera since 1999 and is the absolute best. The quality of the images in new digital cameras is consistently excellent, but the features are not. This camera is very intuitive; simple to operate and adjust, and actually fun to use. The touch screen is not a gadget, it makes the camera more of a tool instead of a toy, by allowing on the fly adjustments to compensate for artistic needs as well as image adjustments. I own a Nikon D 60 as well, but this has become my camera of choice because of its compactness, quality and simple flexibility. We are going to Europe in the spring and this is the camera I will take along over the D-60.

The camera is quite good. I bought it because it gave me the oportunity to tape videos with quite a good resolution, and also to be able to take easy pictures on venues or occasions where I can't take my DSLR. Pictures are very nice, although I haven't seen them printed yet. Video quality is also very good. The down side is that the camera is a bit slow on recording (with a class 4 SD card). As for the picture quality, I notice it doesn't expose that well on overcast weather, and also that the colours seem a bit undersaturated in general. Nothing that Photoshop can't solve, but maybe for this type of casual photography I wouldn't feel like having to post-process my pictures. Other than these issues this is a very fine product. My camera broke a little after a month of buying it. I sent it to the Nikon Service Dept for repairs and they've had the camera for a month and a half (longer than I actually had the camera!) Terrible service, terrible product-- stick with a casio!

I ordered this camera after having read the reviews and I've never seen a camera so full of features! I was amazed by the touch screen and the clarity/sharpness of the pics I took. Love the video/audio feature as well. The battery died after about 15 hours and it was so easy to recharge...took approx. 2 hours for full recharge. I'm not a professional photographer, barely an amateur, but I know that Nikon is an excellent brand and so far this camera has just amazed me!! And I have so much more to learn about it!!!

Was really disappointed in this camera, wanted good image stabilization. But get a lot of blurry photos, especially indoor photos, of people and objects. Would not recommend this camera.

I had an issue with the flash on first camera I ordered, but as soon as I takled to Amazon customer service, they had another one to me in the mail the following day and I haven't had a single problem! It takes great pictures, even when you have to zoom. I have had problems in the apst with other cameras where the flash somewhat whites out people's faces, but this flash works very well. Picture quality is very high! I love the camera and all its features!!!

I was unsure if I wanted to purchase a touch screen camera. Reservations are gone! Love the automatic point-and-shoot feature. It picks the right setting whether indoors or out to create beautiful pics. I purchased this one because I can use my memory card and batteries from my old camera and the carrying case (I should have left my old camera in the case instead of tossing into center arm rest and crushing it). The Nikon fits nicely in my pocket to take unposed interesting pictures of family and places of interest. The touch screen makes it very simple to view pictures after they are taken. My wife really loves this camera. She likes the color, size, picture quality and touch screen. She can take it in her purse and have a camera on hand when the kids have a momet you want to capture right then and there.
