Acronis True Image Home 2010
This is the first online review I have ever written. But I felt I really needed to warn others against this product. It works fine for a few backups then says "Operation Failed" and then will not even begin a backup. The only way I've been able get it to work when this happens is to uninstall and reinstall. Then it works a few times, then quits. I called support to ask for help and they said I needed to pay for them to get their software to work. I've not only lost my original (though relatively small) investment for the cost of purchase, but hours of my precious time trying to get it to work. Save your money. Save your time. Buy something else.

The software didn't work on a fresh install of windows 7. It freezes the system and even ctrl-alt-del didn't work. I had to do a complete reinstall. The solution provided on the website doesn't work either. A support email isn't answered (at least not in a week). Terrible performance - I asked my money back.

Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 (1 PC)

I've read many reviews comparing this to Ghost 2003 and how this brings back all the features and more. I purchased this product thinking it had the same ability to boot-up and clone the hard drive without installing anything (like Ghost 2003). It didn't. With Ghost 2003 you could just add second hard drive, boot-up and clone the hard drive without any real effort. I could just buy a larger hard drive and violoa. NOT with any version of Ghost since, including Ghost 15. This is NOT like Ghost 2003, so please stop comparing it to such. I often upgrade my hard drive and don't want to install software to do this very simple factor. When I upgrade from Ghost 2003, I'm probably going to go to Acronis True Image.

We have used Acronis version 8 for many years on XP machines and were very happy. Purchased Acronis 2010 for a new Windows 7 Laptop. Will not work; even after downloading updates. Machine froze multiple times. Acronis customer service is non-existent. PLEASE BELIEVE THE OTHER REVIEWS - DO NOT PURCHASE - LOST TIME AND OPPORTUNITY WAS > THAN THE 40$.

Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 (1 PC)

I bought this because I wanted a program that would continually make backups in the background, thus saving me the hassle of doing it myself. I use Norton Ghost at work all the time (an older version) so I figured it to be a pretty good program, and I was wrong. I did a full backup, and then attempted to transfer the image to a new hard-drive. Upon imaging (which took several hours) on every boot I would get some cryptic error, and then it would restart. I tried imaging three times without success, so I figured maybe the MBR or something got corrupted. I then installed the OS, programs etc. onto the hard-drive and tried to retrieve some of my files (like the Music folder, and My Documents). At every step it felt like I was fighting the UI. Nothing was logical and when I finally got to where you can retrieve files, I found that it was just that, files only, no folders, no directory structures, just files. I'm just thankful I made a real backup before I tried this nonsense, otherwise I'd

I feel compelled to defend a product which has been much maligned around these parts, but one which I purchased (not here), downloaded and installed yesterday and have found to be working perfectly. I really wrestled with the decision to buy, based on all the negatives. After all, so many of my purchases, in all areas, are influenced by user reviews on the web (though I've learned to separate much of the review wheat from the chaff). I don't doubt that a number of good people have had real problems using Acronis TI 2010. Some of these problems may be related to earlier versions of the software, and, if that is the case, there are really no good excuses. TI 2010 is not some freeware video program; it is mission critical to the folks that buy and rely on it. I understand the challenges companies face in a tough, competitive market, especially in these economic times. However, bad news runs around the world while good news is still lacing up its sneakers. You'd better have a product ready

Rebit Backup Software for Single PC- RSCD35000POS
+ 0 likes
I highly recommend the Rebit Backup Software. The wife is not the best at backing up her data so I bought this and installed it on a USB external drive. The only caveat is that the disk you plan to use this on must be completely free of data. This program does a scan to see if there are any files or documents, and if it finds data, it will not install. Of course, you could always use a shredder program or reformat the backup drive, then reinstall. I found it absolutely effortless to install it on a new drive. Rebit constantly monitors your main drive and makes almost immediate backups. With the price of hard drives dropping every week, there's no reason to let you data go unprotected. Unless of course, there's no baby pictures, or family pictures, tax returns, scanned receipts or nothing else of importance on your computer. Otherwise, get this program.

Like another reviewer (who gave this software 5 stars), I've used several versions of Acronis over the years. Why? I suppose because there is little choice when surveying the options for such a combination of utilities. I've almost always been disappointed. Acronis makes a very powerful set of drivers and installs them so that they are very difficult to remove. You are very lucky if the software performs its task for you; just plain lucky if it doesn't work but also doesn't screw up your system in some fashion; and at par if it doesn't work, makes your system hang or crash, and cannot be removed. Incidentally, you can't read the backups unless you use Acronis. So, if it malfunctions, your backups are worthless. There are various editions and bundles by Acronis...I urge you to stay away from all of them.

I have used Acronis True Image versions for 5+ years. The earlier versions generally worked well and better than Norton's Ghost and PowerQuest's image backup products. Support has always been very poor, but that almost can't be helped when complex products sell for $40. The product just needs to work, and backup software must work with near perfect reliability. The only reason backup products exist is to be there when you need them. If they fail then, when it is the software's fault, then they are far worse than not having a product, since people count on them and feel their data or system is protected. With the newer versions of Acronis I have experienced numerous errors and simply can not depend on it at all any more. Many of the errors can only be described as "childish" and indicate very sloppy software, that should not be on the market - and I say that as someone who has written software for 30+ years. In testing 2 of the newest versions I continually got "operation successful" messages

Rebit Backup Software for Single PC- RSCD35000POS

Windows users are looking for "time machine". The mac program lets you set backup parameters. Rebit takes over your machine. It slows down all functions of the computer like the early versions of Norton Antivirus used to. Whenever I log on to my machine in the morning the computer it acts like it is stuck in deep mud for at least 10 minutes, then never gets up to speed. After tolerating the slowdown for two weeks I get a message from Rebit that the major file is corrupt. This program offers nothing

First, the software that you get is for ONE MOVE ONLY, although I don't see that info anywhere in the description. (Maybe I'm missing it?) I bundled this software with a new Dell PC that I finally bought/upgraded to (the bundled price of the software was less than half the price I've seen the software selling for -- I would NOT have bought this software at full price!!). On my new PC I kept XP (with separate discs and a license for Windows 7 in case I ever want to switch -- I switched Vista altogether!!) so the PCmover software was doing a transfer from XP to XP (which I assume is easier than, say, XP to 7). I had a LOT of applications that I definitely wanted transferred because I have no idea where their CDs are (my old PC was REALLY old -- 8 years!!). Most applications transferred without a hitch. In Internet Explorer, all my favorites are there (including on the favorites bar), which was nice); I expect that I'll have to re-input login info, but that is not a big deal. The version

Rebit Backup Software for Multiple PCs (6) RSCD350000MPOS

Rebit promises a "set it and forget it" backup experience. That was not true in my case. There are three areas of failure. First, I have a gaming desktop that has a RAID array (excuse the jargon)hard disk setup for speed. Will Rebit restore to RAID? No. Irritating but I could live with that. If the hard disk died, I would replace it with an ordinary hard disk and restore. The second "Gotcha" is a second backup. It is a good idea to make a second backup which is elsewhere. Online backup services have multiplied but some people complain that they are better at backing up than restoring. Some much for that -- backup is one thing on a computer that must be perfect and never fail. With hard disks so cheap, it is better to buy a portable disk, back up and then take it out of the building. Will Rebit back up to more than one disk? No. Because for Rebit, some of the program elements are on the backup disk itself, so a second blank disk wouldn't work. So I backed up using a different program.

Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 (1 PC)

Ghost 15 conflicts with the backup service for Windows Home Server (WHS). Even if Ghost 15 is installed on the PC (it does not have to be actually running a backup) the WHS Backup will fail. I have validated this on two PC's with Windows 7 and Ghost 15. Before they were upgraded to Windows 7, they were both running Vista with Ghost 12. Backups by both WHS and Ghost worked fine. After the upgrade to Windows 7, but before Ghost 15 was installed, backups to WHS worked fine. After Ghost 15, I received an error from WHS that the backup cannot be completed. Uninstalling Ghost 15 allows WHS backups to work again. The WHS server is running Power Pack 3 (latest software). The version of Ghost is 15.0.0.35659, and hopefully an update will fix this problem. To me, the only reason to upgrade is compatibility with Windows 7. There is nothing else I needed in Ghost 15 that is not in Ghost 12. In fact, if you are running Vista or XP and are not planning to upgrade to Windows 7, buy Ghost

Laplink PC Mover Moving Kit

Hoping to move my notebook from XP to Windows 7 as an "in place" upgrade (multiple partitions on the same hard drive) without reinstalling applications, I wasted two days and $60 on these two LapLink products. Instructions were confusing, and the migration of the "moving van" with all my applications stalled, inexplicably, each time I tried. Got bounced off LapLink on-line chat each time I asked for help. Wound up using Microsoft's free Easy File Transfer to move my data and settings, after which reinstalling the apps was comparatively easy -- the Microsoft utility easily moved my email, calendar info, etc. which was most crucial for me. Great idea, Laplink, but didn't work at all for me.

Symantec Norton Ghost 15.0 (1 PC)

I'm sorry. I just received this product and loaded it up. I have used ghost to transfer HD's during the Windows 95 era. A piece of cake. This new version would not accept my destination drive. This new version would not permit me to make a recovery disk. This new version would not permit me to load any other program after loading it. It acted as if it were a virus. All I did was yell & scream to vent my total frustration. I do want to thank Amazon for providing me this product at a lower cost. $40 is easier to lose than $75 The loss is considerably less than at a store. The problem is software returns are that you must open it to see if it works. Open software cannot be returned. I would not recommend this product unless the person enjoys temper tantrums. STAY AWAY. Stay far away. Save you your money. Use any other recovery disk on the market and obtain drivers accordingly. Norton Ghost is crap.

DriveClone Pro

Simple stated, this product has been a huge waste of my time. There were install problems and when I emailed their tech support they were slow to respond and when they did they could not resolve the problem. I never could get the software to run reliably on Windows 7. On XP Pro I was disappointed when I compared it to other drive clone software. For about the same price, there are much better (and more stable) products available. Update: FarStone Support stated they would email me an upgrade version license key... that was 19 days ago! Just how long can it take to generate a key and email it? This is yet another example of just how slow FarStone Support has been for me, an (unfortunate!) owner of their Drive Clone Pro software.

Rebit Backup Software for Single PC- RSCD35000POS

First, take my review with a grain of salt as I have not actually "used" the product. I tried to install it so I could backup my computer running Vista 64 prior to installing Windows 7. It took quite a while to clear off the information on my 1Tb WD USB drive which only had 12Gb on it. Then, when it was almost finished, it informed me that AVG antivirus had a file in use it could not remove. Since ReBit commandeers your drive so the only thing that can use it is ReBit it would not install. So I reformatted the drive then installed ReBit. This went very fast until it was done and I tried to run it. That is when it decided to tell me it did not work with 64 bit systems. A statement in the description or a quick computer check would have saved me a lot of time and frustration. Update: Rebit customer service contacted me after I emailed them my problem. They sent me to a link that had the newer Windows 7 version I could download. After running the downloaded program and entering my

Rebit Backup Software for Single PC- RSCD35000POS

A simple, elegant solution for total system backup. It backs up everything, including the operating system and works unobtrusively in the background. It requires a USB connection and a decent size external hard drive. USB connections are not the fastest available, but that is not its strength. It just works reliably and unattended. A pop-up icon in the system tray always provides current status. Windows 7 (64 bit) requires an update from Rebit support, but their response was fast and professional. Very highly recommended backup solution!

I tried using "Copy My Hard Drive" to make a bootable Windows 7 disk clone and it rendered the source drive (C:) unbootable! I had to get out the installation DVD to "repair" my Windows 7 installation. I used to back up my XP drives this way using Ghost 12 and it worked smoothly for years. No backup program should modify anything on the source drive. There are several threads on the Symantec site about this and no one has a clue. Save your money if you plan on using the "Copy My Hard Drive" feature.

I tried using this with Windows 7 to do daily incremental backups. Norton Ghost is slow, consumes more disk space than Windows 7 Backup, does not have functionality to exclude directories nested in a directory that is backed up (e.g. cache directories), contains many ads for other Norton products, has this stupid "threat level indicator," costs far too much than is justified, and I could go on detailing its short comings. It may have some redeeming qualities, perhaps to someone who is making a restore image of small drives, but for anything else, Norton Ghost is useless. Consider EMC Retrospect, which is serious backup software, but last I checked did not work well with Windows 7. I'm continuing to use Windows 7 Backup, which is free and superior, until finalizing a backup script using shadow volumes and rsync.
