I've used Kaspersky for a number of years, but what a mistake it was to upgrade to the 2010 version. My PC running XP SP3 slowed down quite a bit, web pages took forever to open, and the disk drive was always being accessed. Upon checking their support forums, I found dozens of threads complaining of these same issues. It seems one major offender is that the new rootkit scan gets stuck at 99% and never completes (you can tell that it's running by the "K" icon flashing in the system tray, and if you right-click on that Kaspersky logo, you will see the root kit scan listed at 99%). From what I can tell, it seems mainly to affect XP users, I'm not sure if Vista users have the same issues. Kaspersky has been promising a fix for the last two weeks, and I think they may have finally released a patch today (11/16). However, time will tell if this resolves all the performance issues. For now, I've gone back to the 2009 version, and my computer has gone back to normal performance too. However,

Count me as a convert. Aside from the fact that both Norton and McAfee are bloated and intrusive, Kaspersky has some really nice features. One thing that's a big win for me is how the protection coverage works. Buying this package gives you a license to run the software, and virus database updates for a year for 3 PCs. At the end of that year, the updates stop but the protection level you had when it expired continues as long as you like. With the others (esp. Norton and AVG), your protection stops after the license expires, which is of course a total ripoff that you don't find out until you're 'hooked'. Then your protection turns into 'nagware', bugging you every five minutes until you renew. Up until my switch, I always cursed them under my breath then coughed up money to them (bad). In this game, Kaspersky comes off as the good guys. You get standard virus coverage, along with some extras that should keep you safe against most malicious websites/emails/downloads/environments. I received a free trial of McAfee Security Center bundled with a new Samsung Netbook computer, which arrived 2 days ago. (I had previously purchased a similar Samsung Netbook in June of this year.) When I attempted to register the McAfee software as a new user, I entered my e-mail address and was informed that I already had an account, so that I must log in to my previous account. I did that and was promptly informed that my subscription had expired and that I would have to pay to renew it. I then realized that the McAfee software had jumped to the conclusion that I was still using the older Netbook, since that trial offer had indeed expired. I thought it might be fairly simple to fix this problem by explaining to McAfee that this is a different computer. Wrong. I've spent hours with McAfee and have reached a dead end. I spoke to 2 people in India (one in customer service and one in tech support). The customer service person told me to call tech support. The tech support person

I tried installing Kaspersky on my computer, but it conflicted with McAfee, which I had on there and was doing the job just fine. But I uninstalled McAfee, because I agreed to review Kaspersky and because I wanted to try out it's safe run mode which I'd heard so much about. I like the McAfee interface, I guess because I've become used to it. I like the way it runs in the background and defers scans until my laptop is plugged in. But I have to admit the green Kaspersky interface is dead easy to get on with. You don't have to reboot once it installs and it goes right to work. On my machine, I noticed no slowdown with McAfee and hardly any at all with Kaspersky. Both have easy to understand interfaces, both seem to do the job, but for now I'm going to stick with Kaspersky for awhile, because of the safe run sandbox, even though things run slower in it. However, I do like McAfee a bit better and may go back to it. Both are good. Both will keep you protected, both are worth five stars.

"Kaspersky 2010 Internet Security Suite" is s solid security suite in many ways: A newly-streamlined interface makes it far-more user friendly than ever before; It uses a lot less system resources to run than the last few versions; It works quite well with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit (which I have just upgraded to), with no slowdown or start-up hangs; Firewall, malware and virus protection is among the best of any current security suite; The "safe run" sandbox virtual environment is a nice new feature; The free software upgrades means you only have to continue renewing your subscription, as opposed to shelling out twice as much for annual software upgrades. However, there are a few cons: My experience with KIS 2010 on Vista Ultimate 32-bit was erratic, as most of the time it would work well, but on occasion would tremendously slow down my computer's start-up time, sometimes to the point where I would have no choice but to re-boot the computer; The spam filter needs work; The interface

Does not install on 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise ed. without a patch for setup from Roxio technical support. Creator 2010 does install on 64-bit Vista Ultimate and 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium out of the box. You need to download service pack 1 from Roxio and install it. DVD writing to Plextor and Samsung drives was a bit troublesome prior to doing so.

I agree with Edmac: after upgrading to V4 on my older pc, CPU utilization jumped during scans and my computer becomes unusable. I have tried to schedule scans for middle of the night using the scheduling feature but these scans still kick in at seemingly random times, so I've started disabling them during the day to see if that stops the problem. NOD32 used to offer two substantial advantages over competitors: fairly comprehensive virus detection and great efficiency (because of the way the software is written, it was not a resource hog). Now it's a resource hog. I plan to restore V3 on my primary computer.

This product slowed my internet down to a halt. I had to wait for at least 3 minutes just to open the internet explorer browser (My systems is windows XP Service package #3). Customer service was a joke and I had to wait for almost 40 minutes just to chat with them and they were not helpful. I ended up uninstall the software and buy Norton instead. For those who are using Internet Explorer 8, be warned that there is a real problem with the KAS 2010. Do yourself a favor and Google this particular problem before you're buying this product; it will save you a lot of frustrations in dealing with a product that is flawed and shouldn't be released in the first place (or at least the problem is fixed). Despite all of the recent good reviews, I found that KAS 2010 is the worst anti virus software that I had ever used.

Symantec's Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 is, as of this writing, the most current version of this software. WOW... what an improvement and a utility program that can work in the background and the computer doesn't slow down! Norton did some serious work at getting it's utility programs into the 21st century and it shows it with new graphics and a sleeker look, but with new bells and whistles. I set my Norton Utility program to run in the background as the computer opens to give me an idea if I'm picking up errors from the net and this utility program does catch a lot of the adware and helps keep corruption down to a minimum. Norton Utilities 14.5.0.116 can now do more than ever before and does it well, so well, in fact, that you can speed up your computer remarkably, just by getting rid of all the internet junk that builds up over time and defragging the registry is a great help... yes the registry along with disk defrag are two features that can help the average user. Along with registry

I loved Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. It was the best IS software I have owned. Their upgrade cost was pricey so I bought it through amazon.com, one of their market sellers. I bought the 3 user license and installed it on my 3 computers. No problem at first. Then, one by one, they each had protection suspended for a "license violation". I chatted with Kaspersky tech support and they instructed me how to reactivate the license. This worked, but each computer continues to be kicked off at intermittent times and left my computers unprotected. I sent an email support request to Kaspersky and they sent me some boilerplate answer that suggested, among other things, that the software was sold by a spammer who had distributed the same license number to other users. I said I had bought it from a legitimate seller, that is, amazon.com and if someone else is trying to usurp my license number they should block them instead of me. Kaspersky replied that I have an international license number

I have been using Trend Micro on my main computer for around four years now, and my wife has as well. Our experiences have been mixed. While it does really well at nixing cookies (which is true for this as well), it sometimes doesn't do so well at other viruses, though. In our experiences, we have had good results by scanning, defragmenting the drive, and then scanning again. Repetition of this pattern for some time got rid of one pernicious virus that we had, but I have caught something on my computer that this product hasn't caught, yet. As far as this particular program, we have been running it for about a week and a half. So far, it seems to perform about as does the more mainstream version. There are a wealth of more complex options, all of which seem to be designed to, essentially, protect you from yourself. If you are careless enough to need these, odds are good that you didn't bother to turn them on. Basic virus protection is good, and this product will probably suit most people's

I originally purchase Acronis True Image 2009 a year ago. I lived with all of its bugs up until the last release. I was moving to Windows 7 and determined that Acronis was not going to update True Image 2009 to be compatible and that you were forced to upgrade to True Image 2010. I went ahead and downloaded the True Image 2010 Trial Version. After uninstalling True Image 2009 and installing True Image 2010 I created the Recovery CD. As always the first thing to verify was if the Recovery CD would boot and see all of my drives, etc. I have a RAID 1 configuration and it always worked fine with True Image 2009. When I booted to the True Image 2010 Recovery CD it saw my RAID Volume as two drives versus one logical. I knew this was wrong, so I rebooted from my hard drive. What I got next was that the BCD was corrupted and I was unable to reboot. Fortunately I had a backup image and still had and could use the True Image 2009 Recovery CD. If I didn't have a backup and own the prior version I

I've used just about every security system in the world over the years and a year ago settled on Kaspersky 2009, which is easy to use, runs well, and does everything perfectly. Then, in September, it came time to renew my annual license. I paid my money, and, instead of just renewing me, Kaspersky sent me their new program, 2010. I installed it with no problem. The interface is more complicated but not *really* hard to figure out. After a while, however, I started noticing that there were various sites that I couldn't get to on the Internet (I use Chrome as my browser). Then I discovered that some programs, such as Eudora and Agent were taking longer and longer and longer to shut down when I clicked the X in the corner. And that almost *all* programs I opened or *all* websites that I went to were *much* slower in starting up than they had been before. I tried getting help for various issues at the online Forum where various people send in their problems and other people, including,

This backup software from Acronis gives you a (false) sense of security when you make a backup of your system. When your computer crashes and you want to restore that backup - prepare to be completely frustrated! Just google "Acronis unsupported hard drives" to discover all the problems people are having trying to restore their backups with Acronis True Image. Or go to their forums. When I had a complete system crash last month I couldn't restore from a solid backup I had made using True Image Home several days before. I kept getting error messages about my "hardware" and I have a perfectly standard Toshiba Laptop. When I went to the Acronis forums I discovered lots of frustrated customers having the same problem. I contacted their support who assigned a case number and promised to get back me to me with a "prompt solution." It has been a month and I haven't heard a peep from them since! Some support! I finally had to give up and completely reformat my hard drive and reinstall all my

This will be the last time for McAfee, their predatory practices are annoying in the least including the pop-up adds to renew your subscription. Every hour these pop-up reminders that you have a number of days to renew your subscription, even after I selected a pull-down scroll bar of 2 days for reminder. Then, their practice with their pop-up ads pushing you to upgrade McAfee online with their high prices. These ads became so annoying that I accidently click the OK button and it started upgrading McAfee online, I stopped the process by the Task Manager and then my current version stopped working. Needed to go to customer support to fix the issue, which is another horror story. I purchased the McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2010, the upgrade is a nightmare, needed to uninstall all other virus protection programs including McAfee before installing the new version of McAfee. The upgrade procedure is by far one of the worst I have ever come across. Safe yourself the headache and time to select

I installed this on a Windows 7 computer (Win 7 beta, Virtual PC installation running on a Windows XP host). The installation took a little over 13 min. from the time I stuck the disc in to the time the installed UI came up (although I could have shaved a minute or so off if I hadn't read through the EULA and if I had used the "regular installation" instead of the advanced/custom install--I wound up using all the defaults, anyway). The initial update took another 8 minutes to download and install (the file was 35 MB and my DL took under a minute--most of the 8 min. was installation time). One quirk was that when the update completed, the windows just closed--they didn't give any other indication that they were done or what the success status was. I ran a quick scan after the update was done and it took a mere 45 seconds and found 2 "potential threats" (cookies). I next tried a full scan and that completed in 43 seconds and found another 2 problems--I needed to install 2 Windows updates.

Hugely disappointing. I paid for it on my factory ordered Dell laptop and I deeply regret having made the choice. Issues - Not intuitive as far as usability goes - No real features that differentiate it with the software that accompanied by sony camera and handycam. Infact my Sony software worked faster and more efficiently

I installed this product on all three of the desktops in my home. I can't say that it has fixed anything, but it isn't causing any conflicts or lag time in any of the machines, which is a huge plus. I can say that it did seem to take quite a bit of time to install-more time then I would prefer-but I guess that is probably a good sign that it is installing a lot of preventitive and protective programs. Despite taking a bit of time to get the three computers installed with this program, I have had no REAL trouble aside from the program becoming unresponsive yesterday for no apparent reason. It caused a shut down of my internet explorer that I THOUGHT was a good sign (I figured it was something to do with an unsafe site I may have been on?) but then I wound up having one of those nightmarish error messages telling me, "Trend Micro Internet Security has become unresponsive and will now close" or something along those lines. I am still not sure what that was about-but I didn't really feel

I recently purchased Creator 10. I got it installed and all that will work is the cd copier and making audio cds. I cannot use the DVD parts of the program. It won't open and it says "No permissions to launch application".
I have contacted support 2 weeks ago and I stiil have not received an answer. They closed a ticket without responding to me. I opened a new ticket and they still don't have an answer. This has been a dissapointment to me. I have Roxio 6 and it has always worked great, but after dealing with Creator 10 I would not reccomend the product.

I tend to go back and forth between security products from time to time...like many, I have multiple computers, and somehow I think it's safer to use a mix of security products rather than standardize on the same product everywhere. I haven't used McAfee for a few years, but I decided to give it a try this time as it came preinstalled on my new laptop. Compared to Norton and most of the others, the basic features are very similar. The product detects and removes viruses (more than 200,000 types, according to the vendor) and spyware, while also including anti-phishing and identity theft protection. One unique feature of McAfee is that it periodically makes copies of key system configuration files, enabling you to restore your system to a known good status should something bad happen. Another unique feature I liked was that the product evaluates the security of web links as they are displayed, highlighting suspicious links before you're tempted to follow them. I also found the administration
