I have a 10 month old daughter. she loves to climb on anything to pull herself up into a standing position. She has forced me to rethink my surround sound set up for her safety. I was using a high end sony amp to power my klispch rc-7 speakers on stands. I ordred the YSP-1100 with serious doubts that I would be truely satified after using a 6.1 system for some time. I was wrong. It works realy well. They have made it easy to install and set up. It even keep some features of a traditonal surround system. One can turn the left, center, right, rear right and rear left volume up independently. the sound quality is very claer. The highs are not as bright as the Klipsch but they are better than most. There are recomendations for room size and shape. the room size recommendations are (width 3 to 7 meter, h 2 to 3.5 meter and depth 3 to 7 meter). You will also need four walls in the sitting listing area to reflect the sound. Sound reflection is how it is able to achive the surround sound.

Summary: Good value for the price and a big improvement over TV speakers, but surround effect is weak and there are some limitations in connectivity, subwoofer placement, remote control and audio settings.
I wanted something that would provide improved TV and DVD sound as well as streamed iTunes music without investing a lot of money. This system fills those requirements very well. The sound has a satisfying richness and depth, although the "surround" effect is weak. More like being surrounded on 3 sides, which is pretty much the norm for systems without real rear speakers. To their credit, Sony did not try to mask this limitation by adding reverb effects at ridiculous levels like some systems I've heard.
I'm happy with my choice, but if you are contemplating buying this system you should be aware of some of its limitations:
Connectivity-
There are 4 A/V inputs. Three can be connected via either HDMI (video & audio) or digital optical cable (audio). The SAT input also has a Coax jack.

The sleek design and wireless options are cool. The less wire clutter the better. Although WM has this at a much better price, it's going with a 52" 850 Samsung from Amazon. If you care more about looks this modern looking sound bar hits the mark. While this might not be for someone that's on top of all the best and newest tech it does everything needed to have a clean yet very powerful home theater system. This is replacing a wired surround sound system from Sony only a few years old and blows sony out of the water. I would recommend this product, again if you're willing to sacrifice the best for a better design and look!

I waited, and researched, and waited some more before I finally decided to purchase this system...........and boy I should have gotten it earlier! We purchased a new HD TV and needed speakers that would look nice but still have great sound, these fit both needs. The HDMI inputs are easy to hook up BD and SAT.There's also a really cool setting that automatically adjusts your audio setting to what the signal was recorded in.Definite thumbs up!

This is a great HTIB for the money. The setup was fairly easy, especially using the automatic calibration. The sound that comes out is amazing. The only thing I think that would make the a top of the line system is if it came with some heavier gauge speaker wire. The wire provided is rather small. Do youself a favor prior to installation, get a roll of heavy speaker wire and cut to custom length to get the most efficient sound this system can deliver.

Okay, in the end I have been very pleased with the quality and sound of this product, but like others have written the book of instructions that are included are terrible. Luckily I was hooking this system up to a Samsung TV (the 46 inch Samsung Touch of Red 650) and it's instruction book had a nicely done section on connecting a home threater system.
In order to connect as easily as possible you will need to buy an Optical Audio cable and an HDMI cable (buy through Amazon and save a lot). I also connected my rear speakers with the wireless Samsung SWA-4000.
Everything works great and the sound quality is excellent for a typical home theater.

For the price I didn't expect much from these speakers, and when I got them they definitely exceeded my expectations. I have always been a fan of Yamaha audio equipment and when I was looking for a decent (cheap) set of 5.1 speakers for my Onkyo SR606 I came across this set and thought I'd give them a try. Much to my pleasure they work great! I am only using 3.1 right now but the sound is far superior to any pre-packaged HTS that I have looked at.
PROS - Price, quality of build, sound quality
CONS - plastic casing/style (not the greatest for displaying around your house) This is a very minor con!

Excellent sound for the price and small size. It's not audiophile quality, but is really quite good. I saw the other comments about upconversion, but didn't have such issues. On my Samsung 720p, my DVDs look very near to HD quality with no particular pixellation problem.
Cons: The controls/menus are clunky, and the receiver does not automatically turn on when I turn on my Samsung TV with Anynet function, which is a bit irritating.

My only problem with this system is the same as others have mentioned. The wireless speakers are not really wireless. They are powered by an attachment that does NOT connect to the DVD player (this is the "no wires part"). I've done my research actual wireless are rare and expensive. One thing you have to think about is, exactly what batteries do Wireless speakers use, and how long will they work for?
Setup is simple and the instructions couldn't be any easier. I've yet to fully try it, but so far so good.

I'm actually set on getting the Onkyo S6100 to go with my 52" Samsung and PS3. While still saving for it, i tried at one time the Sony CT-100 which did not satisfy me since i ended up wanting the surround effects (no fault to the CT100). While browsing and reading some very good reviews with this system which also has the HDMI inputs i needed to go with my PS3, i decided to give this a try. The box was small than i expected and while unpacking the speakers i started to feel a bit skeptical if it will sound good. Set-up was easy and only took me maybe a couple hours including running the wires.(my first time to run wires and the color coded connections really helped a lot). Connected the PS3 to the receiver and then to my TV through HDMIs, fired it up, auto calibrate (which was really easy) put in the '300' Bluray and went directly to the fight scenes. All i can say is WOW! (like the other reviewers here) I can hear the small cracks, rattles, arrows swishing and it felt like my ear was twitching

Before I purchased this home theatre system, I read reviews online of similar products. The main reason I was drawn to the Samsung system was based on the price. It was by far cheaper than other systems. I went to the store and tested it out before purchasing it.When it came to setting it up, the directions were fairly simple. I had some difficulties figuring out the wires because I also had a DVR to hook up, but Samsung customer service was very helpful in explaining where everything was connected. The sound quality is superior and I have no qualms with that. My only complaint so far is that the DVD player is large and doesn't fit nicely in my existing TV stand, so it currently is resting in front of my TV.

If you intend to use this with a DVD player using coax or optical connectors, then this system will be great. The is my current set up and I like the quality of sound and the ease of set up.
But my praise ends there. With the understanding that this unit has HDMI (plastered on the box and on the receiver), I was confident that I would be able to plug the Sony S-350 into the HDMI port and be able to enjoy the lossless format from Dolby. Regardless what the Circuit City sales guy had to say, this system is NOT capable of playing lossless formats. This was confirmed when I called Onkyo technical support.
As an alternative, I thought that I could buy a Blu Ray deck that has analog outputs. I would then connect it to the analog inputs on the receiver. Though you would think that the lossless formats would work, Onkyo technical support insists that it will not produce what I am looking for.
In sum, I suggest that those who are looking to migrate to Blu Ray should consider the HTS-6100

well so far so good. let me just start by saying this is my third htib in less than 2 months. my setup is 40 inch samsung ln40a550,directv hd,ps3.
the first htib i chose was the sony ht s2300, which was to weak to meet my standards. sub was cheap because it was passive. returned that and got the
samsung as720st which was nice, met my needs, i was happy with it until the infamous "handshake" issue got way to annoying. it is where when you switch sources it will say "mode not supported" and you you have to turn it on and off to get a picture.
so i returned that and got the onkyo 6100 which so far I'm loving. the sound is great, there are 4 hdmi inputs = way more than enough, 7.1 speaker package in the box, i like the auto setup with the mic that it came with, has an ipod dock which is way cool, i play alot of
guitar hero 3 and it is awesome on this thing.
well long story short, i am very satisfied with the 6100 it is meeting all my standards and not on error yet.
just one thing, it

Having done a lot of research on this genre ( DVD surround sound system) what I find disapointing is the lack of quality accoustics coming from the speakers. Yes, they look cool around my room, especially the tall back speakers placed on stands. It is not what I consider high fidelity, in fact, the sound reproduction is quite poor. I'm a performing musician, so I demand a bit more from anything in the nature of sound reproduction. Forget sweeping strings, or clear, focussed lows, say goodbuy to crispy, textured highs. Don't buy these for sound, buy them for sound effects! Watch a DVD and be amazed when something sounds from behind you or far to the left, or almost hits you between the eyes. It's a folly artists dream...enjoy thoroughly the effects of sound and how it is presented and directed, but not the actual sound as it is reproduced.

I had been looking for a DVD Home Surround Sound System and comparing many different models and brands. I found the perfect unit for my bedroom which has a 47 inch Toshibia LCD. I decided on the Panasonic SC-PT750 Home and ordered it online from overstock.com on Oct 2,2008. The unit arrived 6 days later on Wednesday Oct 8th. The following day I hooked the system up and everything worked great till i went to connect the rear surround wireless speakers, they did not work. i did everything I could by reading the manuel but got no where. On Friday Oct 10th I called Panasonic Customer Service and the Tech and I when over everything for 20mins. The tech advise was to send it to the Panasonic Repair Shop and gave me a case#.
I called the Panasonic Repair Shop and let them know my problem and that I was sending the unit in. I was told by their tech that all I needed to send in was the wireless unit and DVD head unit, nothing else They were very nice and said that they would call me when the unit

Bought it at an excellent price, way cheaper than the local electronic stores in town thanks to a sale at Amazon. Had it shipped for free and received within five days. The set up is simple and to the point. The manual could be improved. One note on the rear speakers; ensure you have the system set up for 5:1 or else the surround speakers (rear-wireless) will not work. This can be done at the set up screen by selecting Sound > Speakers. I have seen a few complaints on the rear speakers not working, and that could be one of the issues. My set up was a breeze and everything works as expected. The front speakers are really good looking and easy to assemble. The speaker wires provided are cheap, so be ready to buy new ones.
Pro's: HDMI Out (1), the picture on DVD's are very good and the sound is astonishing. If you have a Samsung TV with Anynet, the receiver and the TV will work in unison. Pretty cool feature to have, it will allow you to control the TV and the DVD with either remote. The

The biggest issue I have with this unit that while it advertises HDMI connectivity it really doesn't have it. If you have a basic setup like me (1080p tv, set top box and a blu-ray player), you can only connect them by degrading picture quality or - as I have - use the optical audio tv output to connect to the dvd player's optical audio input and forego all other functionality of the dvd player. Not very impressive, given that owning a ps3 or a blu-ray player and therefore wanting to use full hdmi connectivity is not exactly the highest level of sophistication in late 2008.
Sound is not 360 degree (as much as we'd all want it to be), but it's a great replacement for the tv speakers. The system looks good, fits nicely in front of the tv and causes little clutter.

I've had the Sony 7200 for 3 months and have nothing but quality clear sound. All the components are connected via HDMI except one. Components are Samsung LCD TV, Sony PS3, included up-convert 1080P DVD player, HD DirectTV, and the 8 year old VCR.
The included DVD player nearly matches the Blu-ray in picture and sound quality. They are controlled by a sweet Logitech universal remote. I like the TV and movie sound more than the entry/mid priced 7 year old Onkyo system it replaces. Sony 7200 provides high quality sound and plenty of gush in the highs and lows. It is definitely louder than the previous system. I had the base set at 5/8, and later tuned it down a bit to the middle. The base has a major league punch. For CD music listening, I'd say it ties with the Onkyo, which is fantastic. The Onkyo and the CRT TV are moved to the man-cave.
One thing I was looking for in this purchase was that it would provide plenty of volume. And it does. I have the volume meter turned to 20

I bought this item as a surround sound system for my bedroom. It was extremely easy to set up and looks very sleek. The upconversion is decent, not the best I've seen but certainly passable. I used a reference quality picture to test (Lion King) and it looked pretty damn good. Having said that, it sounded even better. I used a Transformers HD-DVD to test it and is was loud, clear, and had good surround. I'm impressed for such a low-priced entry-level system.
Don't listen to the reviews that knock the upconversion or the ability to adjust individual speaker levels. Both are fine. Granted, the speaker levels have to be done from a menu but that's handled while the film's paused, not only if the player is empty, as a reviewer stated.
My biggest con (and the reason its not getting 5 stars) is the insane lack of inputs. One, count 'em, ONE RCA input. That's crazy! Sure, I can run sound through my TV's multiple sound inputs but if I want to use my record player on the sound system
