Excellent Machine For the Price

Really a wonderful PC...especially for the price. I primarily write and research with mine...use image editing and content management apps as well...lots and lots of programs and extras (many browser tabs within multiple browsers)...running at once. All of that quickly choked my dual-core HP with 4 gigs of memory...this new quad-core Gateway with 8 gigs doesn't break a sweat with that and more. Very good ATI graphics card (with HDMI) included--and it's NOT on the motherboard...it's the real deal. The sound components suck (speakers are predictably tiny and horrible, with no sub)...but you get what you pay for. I wanted to replace a box...and use my old peripherals including sound, Apple keyboard, wireless mouse, etc., so all that's not a problem for me. this Gateway is NOT a good choice if you're looking for a SYSTEM...but if you're just replacing the box as I did, it's almost perfect...you can't even build it yourself for this price. I traded a HP THAT I BOUGHT AND OWNED LESS THAN 24 HOURS BECAUSE IT GAVE ME A BLUE SCREEN AND SHUT DOWN 3 TIMES , FOR THE BEST LAPTOP I HAVE EVER OWNED HANDS DOWN.

Easy to install, very fast drive

I bought this drive to separate my data from my bootable O/S drive, so I could use Windows 7 to create an image of my O/S. The install took all of 5 minutes. I did have to purchase the data cable separately, and a conversion power cable as my machine was out of the SATA power cables.

This drive is really, really fast. Moving my data files over (about 30GB) took minutes, compared to copying them to a USB drive or DVD which was a pain.

My machine performance and boot up seems faster now too. I did move my paging file to this second drive, and I think having the data on a different drive helps with the O/S performance too.

Excellent drive

This drive worked as a great replacement drive in a Dell laptop. Swapped them out and had no problems. This drive is a rocket compared to the original drive and is very fast compared to the equivalent Western Digital that Best Buy sells. Insist on this drive, even if it costs a few bucks more. You won't regret it.

HP 20" Monitor

Just bought a HP desktop system last night which included the 20" monitor. I was amazed at the quality of the picture, but dissatisfied with the volume level of the internal speakers. Not bad if you are sitting real close and there is complete silence around you. Good thing I didn't throw my external speakers away!

Hard Working Mouse!

Greatest laptop mouse ever!
I gifted this to my boyfriend and then took over it!
It really works everywhere and the range is great.
This works on my dining table, sofa cushions, bed sheets, carpet etc. all sorts of rough terrain and without mouse a pad!
Batteries lasted me like two months; not bad!

I'm seriously considering buying myself one in "scarlet red" so i can return this blue one to the rightful owner!

what a bust

i bought this router the other day to upgrade from a 4 or 5 year old linksys wireless g that i was really happy with. i thought that by sticking with linksys and upgrading to wireless n would have been a great choice on my part. not so fast my friend! i run a desktop through ethernet, my ps3 through either wireless or ethernet, 2 wireless laptops and a printer hooked up through ethernet. the laptops are rarely on, and same with my printer. i only use my ps3 at night time when im not busy and no one else is on the internet. i cant even play a descent game of modern warfare 2 anymore cuz the signal is so inconsistant through both wireless and ethernet! ive had it for approx. 2 days now and i hate this thing. so whatever you do, do not get it. such inconsistant signal.... im very disapointed :|

not the greatest

Bought this and had issues from the start. Included software didnt run well on a vista pc, would recognize internet connection, then not a pc, then intermitantly both. Then try to add second pc and would disconnect both pcs, then both would connect and no internet. Was frustrating after an hour of trying to set up multiple connections. Works great with one connection, with any additional hardwired.

Love this Laptop!!!

I bought this laptop a little over a week ago and I absolutely love it! It was set up at best buy and was ready to go when I walked out of the store, it couldn't have been easier! It is easy to use and the blue ray is unbelievable! I bought the cord to connect it to my hdtv and it looks great on the big screen too! if you want a laptop under $1000, this is the one! You can't find a better product for the price! Enjoy! I am!

Great looking product

Well built and nice looking product. The rounded edges and sleek lines of this netbook are really nice. It has a subdued pattern on the lid that is unique. Other Features that I like are the keyboard and built in webcam.

great laptop

It was between this and a macbook pro. The entry level macbook pro had the exact same specs but a smaller hard drive. But the pro does have the SD slot and firewire capabilities. For 200 extra dollars, I just didn't think those features were worth it since I have never used firewire in my life and the SD slot is only a minor inconvenience.

I switched from PC to MAC, this is my first mac ever. I love it. There's just so many small things that it does so well. You have to try it out yourself. And although the specs aren't as good as some PC's in the price range, you wont be able to tell because this operating system is so fast. No hang ups or anything so far. So many cool features and the trackpad is amazing. Also, battery life is 10 times (literally) better than my old Dell. I recommend this for sure.

Cutest little netbook!!

I purchased this netbook for my Mother's 80th birthday. It is her favorite color (pink). She is really good with a computer and she has been doing genealogical research for many years. This netbook is small enough for her to take with her to the library. Instead of having to write stuff down she can just type it in her netbook. She is very well satisfied with it.

Excellent

I bought this laptop and I have been using it for a week now, windows 7 is compatible with most of the programs and it has great gaming capacity. There is actually nothing to dislike about this laptop as it is fast at connecting to wireless networks and everything works well so far.
This is my first personal laptop and I am realy enjoying it. Thanks alot HP for making a value for money laptop with great capabilities.

Fantastic value

Unbeatable value. Bought as a "desktop replacement" for my son in sophomore year. More than enough here to see him through to college. Especially good value when purchased with Office during the recent promotion.
Get something smaller if you need to travel (we have a shared family netbook for days when one of us has to travel with a PC).

Average

Overall, it gets me from point A to point B, but the graphics card is pretty weak, its rated as a 3.4 for games. i do play a few games here and there, and my games dont really display right (AOE2). i probably should have spent a couple hundred more on something with a better graphics card.

Very Nice laptop

Overall, I love this laptop! It's fast, pretty light-weight, and easy to use. For the price I paid....excellent product! I like the glossy look, but don't like the smudges that you can see after you touch it. But that is a minor thing. Overall, again, great computer!!

not worth

please read all the review before buy the HP Envy series. My opinion is this laptop is not worth as the price. Hopefully that the manufacture will have some upgrade for user and who bought the HP Envy series. tks a lot.

Just bought this

If you are looking for a mobile desktop replacement that is light and can play games, this it. I needed a laptop that can keep up with my desktop gaming rig (just built a new i7-920 with an ati 5870). For the last week, i have been reading reviews and comparing prices. I was leaning towards a Sager laptop, but once you add the options it is quickly over 2k. I finally went to bestbuy to look at the Asus, HP dv7 and this laptop. All the other laptops had an ugly glossy finish and the touch pads were awful. Also, the combo of this processor with a nice video card is hard to find in this form factor. I really did not want to buy a huge 10 lbs monster built out of ugly cheap glossy plastic with an unusable touchpad. I was also looking at the mac Pro, since I am that price range now, but I just cant spend that kind of money for old technology that can barley play video games at 1280x768. Apple is also slated to do a refresh with maybe a i7 cpu sometime in Q1 2010. You definatly do not want to  more

AWESOME!!

I bought this computer when Windows 7 was out. I changed my HPDV2000 and i am very happy. The screen is big and wide, very good for using parallel view windows, now very easy to do with 7.
Keyboard is very confortable, and it's temperature is stable all the time, not as my last laptop.
I specially recommended for entertaiment user, casual gamers, and everyday computing.
Great choice.
