Buy the kit with EF-S 18-55mm IS lens instead. The new 18-55mm IS lens is a gem and the kit only costs $60 more. This lens is much improved from the last generation and is even optically better than the Canon 17-85mm IS lens that costs many times more. Even if you decide that the kit lens is not for you, you can resell it for much more than $60.
So why only four stars? Well, It seems that the latest Canon digital SLRs have a little bit of problem with dead pixels. Mine developed one after a few hundred of shots. Given that there are 12 million pixels, one dead pixel is very hard to see unless you really zoom it in. I mean this is like locating one red-head person from the Tokyo population. Nonetheless, it is annoying when you know that there is a dead pixel. Fortunately, Canon's manual sensor cleaning function also has a firmware program to detect and mask the deal pixels with information copied from an adjacent pixel. You just have to turn the camera into the manual sensor cleaning mode

Love it! Very easy to use. Some advanced features are a little intimidating, but the instruction booklet is pretty easy to follow. Takes wonderful pictures! Definitely worth the money!

After briefly reviewing the abbreviated instruction booklet, I was able to take photos with ease. The camera has great features and a huge screen. Battery charges quickly and holds the charge for a long time. My daughter's birthday is next week and she is getting this camera as well.

I've had this camera for a little over two weeks. Bought it so that i can take underwater images when in Hawaii. Haven't tried out the waterproof aspect yet, but can go ahead and give some insight into the quality of its normal pics.
10 mp camera, but is limited to 3 mp images when shooting on some of the preset modes (scenes) - specifically candlelight images and other night-time image settings. If you don't use the scene options, your images can be maxed at the 10 mp setting. Night images using scene (candlelight) were pretty grainy, so i'd avoid using that setting.
Normal daytime images were good. Crisp and clear. From power to first image - is really quick. However, taking one image at 10 mp causes a delay before you can take the next image of ~2 seconds. Unless you use the burst mode. 3-shot burst allows for 10 mp images, whereas the super 12 shot mode caps it again at 3 mp images.
People have written that the lcd screen is easy to see in any light from any angle.

I really wanted to love this camera. It has everything I wanted: rugged, compact, waterproof, and takes great pictures. I currently have a Panasonic Lumix TZ-5, and a the Panasonic waterproof casing for it, and never used this combo with the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW around!
It was so easy to carry the Stylus 1030 SW around on the pool/beach and into the water. It starts up almost immediately upon pressing the power button so I never missed a shot. I loved that it was shock-proof so I didn't have to mentally treat it with kid gloves, and there are no protrusions on the camera to worry about breaking.
Now the bad news. After the first time going into the pool for about 3 feet underwater, the camera seems to be adversely affected. I was extra careful and followed the directions regarding checking the seals for foreign objects that may cause leaks, and they were properly closed.
I noticed that the videos taken (maybe from this point on, maybe always had this problem) had a smudge about

The Olympus Stylus 1030SW is the coolest camera I've ever seen!!! I just got back from the beach with my family and it worked great. We had a ball with it in the ocean and now have some great memories to boot!!! The picture quality couldn't be better (as long as you use good photography techniques, you cant fight physics). I took video of myself and family riding waves in the ocean and it looks amazing. This camera is a great product that I am recommending to all my friends and family. Also, as a creative arts director for a non-profit I will be recommending its purchase by all of our new recruits.
-Make sure you buy a huge memory card though...I have the 2gig and it allows almost 2 hrs of video.
-The floating wrist strap is a must if you intend to use the camera anywhere near moving water.
Great Job Olympus!!!!

the camera was an excellent purchase. It is definitely worth the value that it is being sold for. Would recommend to anyone looking for a great camera.

I purchased this camera for a recent vacation and found it to be an excellent choice. The Finepix is an easy to use point and shoot camera.
The pictures it takes are very clear - this is probably a result of Fujifilm's Picture Stabilization Technology. I took pictures from a moving bus, and they look as if I'm standing still.
The camera is good in low light at a reasonable distance. We took pictures of the Las Vegas Strip at night, and they look amazing. However, we also took pictures in a very dim room and found that unless the object you were focusing on was close at hand, it was very difficult to see in the picture. The low light pictures still very clear.
The 3X zoom was perfect for every picture that I wanted to take and made items look close enough for a good shot.
In sum, this is an excellent purchase for the price. I recommend this camera to anyone wanting to take basic, good pictures.

It's hard to find fault with the TZ50 as a basic compact ultrazoom camera. The T50 offers all the performance and flexibility of the excellent TZ5, which is certainly why many consumers will find it so appealing. Sure, Panasonic could have made the TZ50 a much more useful photographic tool by including basic features like P/A/S/M modes, but the reality is that most point-and-shoot users won't miss these features. The new WiFi upload feature is sure to be attractive to many consumers looking to quickly share their vacation photos. Nevertheless, it's hard to overwhelmingly recommend the TZ50 over the TZ5.
When everything is said and done, although the TZ50 allows you to wirelessly upload your images to your Picasa web gallery the process isn't nearly as easy as it might sound. Since the TZ5 can be purchased for a full $100 less than the TZ50, I suspect most average consumers will be happier uploading images the "old fashioned way" directly from their desktop or laptop computers rather than

To start I am an a amateur photographer with about two years experience.
I own a D40,which was my first and really enjoy it for family and everyday shooting.Great colors and focus.I then purchased the D80 which I have had
great success with and love it!But when I purchased the D300 there is no
comparison. The 51 point focus is awesome and the color choices are unbelievable! This thing is awesome when it comes to speed and focus.Quick
accurate response time is great for nature and fast moving subjects.
The pictures you take will make you feel like a pro with the very first shots taken.
The menu is so easy to use that it makes ease of changing and getting exactly what you're looking for. There is a lot in the menu but with a little time you'll get it fine because it has a help section.Anyone thinking of going another step up to a pro camera should not look elsewhere as Nikon truly has created a gem!To me this is a five star camera because of performance and the rugged build quality,A+

This is my third Sony digital camera. I started off with a Sony DSC P72, a 3.2 megapixel workhorse that used 2 AA batteries (that unfortunately drained pretty quickly...). That's when my love affair with Sony digital began. That camera provided me with some really memorable pictures and it's still gong strong. Currently being used by my daughter, but now that I've picked up the W300 my daughter stands to inherit my 2nd Sony digital a DSC W50, a 6.0 megapixel gem that I've had for several years and has given me so much pleasure. So when I started thinking about upgrading I started checking out other brands such a Nikon and Canon. I was primarily looking for another point & shoot because that is what I love...the convenience of a small camera that can be readily available to shoot my pictures. Now I'm not a professional wannabe in any way...and the Nikon Coolpix S600 was a camera I seriously considered but after laying my eyes on the Sony DSC W300 and that "beautiful" titanium finish

Like most people, I did lot of research (online and visits to retailers) before deciding on the Canon SD770is. If you're considering a quality, compact digital camera, there simply is no better choice than the Canon SD770is - and go with the black color which features a black circle in front, a slightly darker body color, and a black wrist strap instead of the silver strap that comes with the silver version. I considered the SD790is with the 3" screen, but it's slightly bigger and heavier and only came in silver. The 770 is the successor to the 750 (one of Canon's best digital cameras), and adds image stabilization, a better LCD screen, 10 megapixels, and better battery pack. I won't go into all the specs, because you can read that anywhere online, but the diminutive size makes the 770 very convenient to carry everywhere and the pictures are absolutely great. What more could you ask for? I admit I am biased towards Canon as every year or two I upgrade to another Canon, but they simply

If you are torn between the D40 and the D60, pick the D40. It has 95% of the functionality of the D60 and it's much cheaper. Both cameras share the biggest limitation of not having an Auto Focus motor and only 3 focus points so you're likely to outgrow both at the same time. At least with the D40, you'll have a much lower investment while you learn about photography. Don't get me wrong, both take great pictures given the right conditions and lenses, but don't under-estimate the lack of an AF motor.
If you have D60 money, I would STRONGLY recommend getting the D80 instead. It may cost a little more, but you will quickly pay for that if you purchase the 50mm 1.8 lens that actually does autofocus on the D80 plus countless other older AF style lenses that do not AF on the D60 or D40.
Again, the reason why I'm giving the D60 3 stars is not about the picture because it is a good camera, but it's very over priced as of this writing. Once the D90 comes out, the D60 will be Nikon's starter

I have researched for one of the best DSLR cameras without breaking the bank and have found it in the 5D model. A very flexible camera, truly a masterpiece for shooting landscapes and portraits as well as anything in between, the 5D fulfills any needs I had prior to owning it. My only wish is that it had a more flexible bracketing system, such as 5 frames bracketing instead of 3 frames. Still, worth its weight in gold, the 5D is the one DSLR I would recommend for any job and for any serious amateur or pro photographer out there.

pros:
-Like the color options which make it stand out from the normal silver cameras that are out.
-good picture quality for the price.
-uses AA batteries, but batteries last about 2-3 days.
-uses normal SD card for memory
-can zoom in during video recording
cons:
-very light, doesn't feel very durable? plastic body?
-excruciatingly slow reaction time.
-interface takes some getting used to

I recently bought the Olympus Stylus before a trip to Europe. I needed to replace an old SONY camera that had issues holding a battery charge (it took AA rechargeables, which was a nice feature). It was time for an upgrade anyway, so I did a lot of research, wanting to have a balance of price and features. What's great about this camera is its optical zoom (5x). It's also great that there are many features (including a panoramic feature-- it takes a bit to get used to).
Some negatives:
1) The battery life runs out pretty quickly (didn't last more than 3 days). This depends partially on the features that you use (it seemed to run out faster when I took panoramic shots or used the menu to adjust the brightness of the shot), but I would advise buying a second battery or have an electricity converter if traveling abroad. One battery, charged once, will not be sufficient. The camera is probably average in terms of battery life, but I had higher expectations.

I wanted to get a camera that was closer to a DLSR in quality and features, but that wasn't bulky. I wanted to get a camera that I could not only use casually at home and around town, but also on vacation where I tend to take a greater variety of camera shots. The TZ5 checked all the boxes and then some!
Other reviews compare it to the Canon sd870is and other cameras so I won't go into that here. Here's how I see it:
Pros:
- The lens and 10x optical zoom. Simply fantastic. I know, you may think you don't need the zoom. And I agree, for the most part, you probably don't. I'm certainly no professional photographer, but I thought about it, and those occassions when I do need more than your standard 3-4x zoom actually comes up more often than I would have thought - whether video taping an at bat for a baseball game or taking a close up photo from a moderate distance. And since I bought it, I have wound up using the zoom far more than I would have expected. Particularly in the 5-8x

This camera has an incredible set of features for the price. It takes great pictures and is fast. The only issue I have with it is the wireless. In the advertising they make it sound like you can upload the pictures directly to your PC and that isn't true, you have to set it up to go through a web site then copy to your PC. other than that, greta camera, good price, excellent quality.

I bought the W30 as an upgrade for the Pentax WPi which I have had for about three years. That camera gave good service and met its waterproof claims. It was used extensively for kayaking, skiing and snorkelling and eventually failed after being taken too deep.
The W30 is now about 15 months old and has been used for skiing trips and travel in Oman but had not been used in water. I have been very happy with image quality and ease of use. I take mostly landscape photos so tend not to use a lot of the alternative settings. Reading other reviews I see a lot of comments about problems with use in water and I want to concentrate mainly on this area, especially as it is the distinguishing feature of the camera.
Last week I took it snorkelling and clipped it onto the diver flag bouy I was towing. This put it about about six inches below the surface. after swimming out to the reef I unclipped the camera and found the LCD screen was half full of water. Returning to the shore I found the battery

Back before digital cameras, I had a 35mm and a bunch of lenses. I have the 55mm that came with the camera, a 35mm wide angle and a 150mm telephoto. Later on, I got a 28mm to 60mm wide angle zoom and a few years after that, I got a 135mm to 230mm telephoto zoom. I had a whole bag full os lenses. It took a while to get anything on film because it took minutes to ponder the shot, get all the hardware assembled and take it. Then, that was pretty much state of the art in amature photography...
During the digital age, I had a few Sony Mavika cameras that were horrible cameras, but had a long zoom lense on them. They were big and heavy and shot 1.3mp to 2.0mp shots. I then got a little Cannon that was a great little pocket camera but only had a 3X zoom and didn't do it. I then got a Kodak that had a 10X zoom, but it didn't have anything close to a wide angle. I still have most of that hardware and all of it put together cannot hold a candle to this new Panasonic TZ5K.
This one little Panasonic
