Maybe this can be an encouragement to move on to languages like PHP or Java rather than mIRC.

I would make php scripts but it seems like without making a whole website theres not much else to do ofwhich wouldnt be cooler in mirc >.> I love the language though.

Also java I want to burn on a stake and sacrefice it to the gods.

Making a website is a lot more useful to a lot more people. mIRC has a very limited audience. You can make something cool online and maybe even earn a living doing it.

@[Plornt] PHP has grown far beyond just a server-side scripting language, you can manage databases, create graphics, generate PDF files, make OS applications, automate CLI tasks, create GUI's. And more extension modules being made/developed everyday

You don't even need a paid hosting account to get started with PHP. You can install any number of AMP (Apache, mySQL, PHP) packages and get started right away. For Windows users you can try WAMP or XAMPP and for Mac there's MAMP. They all make it very easy to start building in PHP.

Yeah I do use PHP alot but its not like mirc code, I mean in my personal opinion when someone does somthing in a language which isnt huge it kinda seems alot better. For example Id be much more impressed at someone making a graph like that in mirc picwin than php/js/css just because its not the general thing you think of when you see mirc scripts.

Not trying to hate on your feature though :P It looks great and its a nice way of seeing your stats and how popular you are ^^

The difference between mIRC scripting and PHP is knowing PHP can land you a job.

[Plornt], I'm more impressed when somebody can finish a project without re-inventing the wheel. In fact these charts aren't even coded by me, they're done with the Google charts API. It just wouldn't be practical to code them when the work has already been done. That way I can get this feature launched in a few days rather than weeks and move on to the next new feature. Time is a major consideration when it comes to running a successful business. When you start getting clients they won't care that you coded the framework from the ground up, but that you finished the project on time and that it works well.

Very well put @Hawkee Great new feature!!

Aha, old topic. Oh how times for me have changed. The key here is that you need to know what you are making for. In this case likely a mix of server side code and JavaScript etc. You are coding for a live site and you need things to work without spending a lot of time to fix issues. Now in regards to what I said, a year has passed and I cant believe how much you can learn in that time. mIRC or any other language although would notable that you could create something in (because of limitations) it would just be stupid and impractical.

Which now I go on to say @sunslayer ... PHP has grown however it was not built for GUIs etc or they would have been included without the use of extensions/modules etc. You would be much better off using VBA, C#, C++, .NET etc... Obviously this is my opinion so should probably be taken with a pinch of salt - of course if in a years time I feel its a dumb opinion then I will re-asses and re-comment again :P

So yes, anyone reading this now and anyone looking over my comments, just ignore them.

@[Plornt] PHP was originally built to serve dynamic web pages. I think @sunslayer was pointing out the possibilities of creating these things (PDF/GUI's) with relative ease - going beyond creating just "web sites" :)
