Got this drive a few days ago... have installed the startup software via USB but every time i switch it on with eSATA connected, the light comes on, flashes and then turns off.. any ideas??
Too bad I didn't see this post last week. I went through all the same steps you did from being short on space to buying the same expander to following the directions to calling cablevision and going through the stupid 500GB only speil. I wrote to cablevision and told them that the 1TB drive does work after all. Just have to plug in the data cable or cycle the drive power while the 8300 box is powered and it works. The problem I am having now is jitter and stutter during playback. I am not sure if it is the extender drive or the fact that we had a bad storm and a nasty power outage last week. I ran it all from a generator for 3 days until we got the power back. Please write if you have any suggestions on what the problem may be.
Thank you! I had exactly the same experience you did. But after reading your comment, I didn't realize at first you meant that both should be powered up AND already booted. While watching tv, I just took out the eSata cable and stuck it back in and you were right...voila!...I was asked if I wanted to format the drive and I went from 76% to 10%. I called Cablevision and gave them the info, since I'm sure that after changing all the channels to HD, they're going to be getting a lot of questions about this. You are a lifesaver!!!!
I used the solution provided by e-user001 and it worked!
My flip now recharges fine and does not say "It's Really Hot - Charging Paused".

e-user001: The following is directly from Flip Video support and it rectified this issue for me:
If your battery pack is not charging properly, please try the following:
1) remove the battery pack from the camcorder
2) connect the camcorder to a powered USB port on your computer
3) when the "Connected" indicator comes on, insert the battery pack into the camcorder
4) safe eject your camcorder from your computer
5) reconnect your camcorder to your computer
6) the battery pack should now begin to charge within the camcorder
I found a program on the 309 printer installation disc called HP Photosmart studio that has the ability to design and print labels for the DC/DVD. It's true that it is not well advertised in the documentation, but it is there and works great. Full customization including pictures (images.)
This means you have to go to My Computer, find Flip USB device, right click and choose "Eject". It will re-connect with PC right away by my computer just then announced that new USB device has been discovered, installed something blah blah and then ... USB Device not recognized, please remove...
Anyway on another forum I found advice to simply remove battery cover when charging, it should fix the problem in many cases...
I agree. I just recently got the iPod Nano 8GB in black as well and it's great, it's small yet tasteful. Except for the fact it doesn't turn off, I love it. Nice review and nice product. :)

Either your CPU temperature sensor or your household thermometer is broken. It's not possible for a passive cooler (i.e. one that doesn't use a compressor and refrigerant) to cool your CPU to below ambient temperature.
Seem to be three issues here. Lack of support from the company, a technical glitch when the Flip is unplugged from a computer, and a genuine overheating problem. If the support isn't there, I guess we're in the business of icing the battery or following e-user001's advice. Personally, the latter has always worked, irrespective of the spurious error message announced by the Flip. Which I guess is why I'm very happy with my camera and so is my eldest son - quite literally, child's play to use. :-) Feel sorry for you folks with genuine overheating issues though - the company should really come clean on that :-(
I just bought this tv mainly for my ps3, COD MW 2.
When I first played I was pissed! Then I started looking up why it lagged so bad.
After reading a few tips from these reviews and adjusting back light/contrast, turning off blue stretch/DCM
it is now awsome!!! I am almost always 1st or 2nd on COD online games, before I did these changes I was lucky to get one kill!!! Now that I did change I'm back up in the 1&2 spot!!
I was just about to pack this beast back up and return. Really glad I read these reviews and tried the tips given!
I am having the same problem and nothing seems to works. I am sitting at the PC looking at my Flip trying to charge with an ice pack on it. Goodness...
I assume that these charging issues are due to high resistance connections with the battery packs. I had the same charging problems as many as you, i.e. No Charging whatsoever. So I looked at the insulation around the bottom of the battery pack and looked at the terminal in the camera... pathetic design from what I can tell. No spring? Are you kidding me? I trimmed back the insulation on the battery pack and put it back in the camera to see if it will charge this time. I'll let you know how that works out.
I completely agree. Set up disc failed, prompted me to play with firewall settings, not enough documentation, No support on the Netgear website, terrible.
In the end I found this comment logged in to my browser, punched in the IP address and voila. I am no techspert but am better than the average consumer.
I do not recommend this product to anyone who wants a pleasant out of the box solution.
Alcain, I tryed to remove the battery but that was not effective. The "Check Battery Pack - Charging Paused" and "It's Really Hot - Charging Paused" error messages still appearing on the display.
So, I don't know why, I put a fan in front at the open Flip during the charging process and... works! Full charged battery, for the first time ever!
Hi, Just encountered the partition thing and wondered how you extend the C drive? I figured out how to shrink D (don;t want to remove it beucase there's a dll file in it)but I can't figure out how to extend the C. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Why the "easy countdown" feature exists in womens watches only?? It is also known as single button controlled countdown; I mean easy setting (well, perhaps with two buttons?) alarm for most frequently needed time distances, like in this model, i.e. LA670WA-1. In 1985 Casio made LW40 series (for men), with 3 or 4 newer models. But currently Casio does not produce even one such watch for men (that's an info from the Casio representative in Poland). Don't men need this function, while women need it?
Does anybody know a currenlty available watch for men with this feature, made by another firm (in a comparable price to this one)? I would even be happy if such a watch is going to be produced in 3-4 months - I can wait for it.
Im a geek squad installer for best buy and the 4111L can do unlock once the car has been started if the installer wires the power lock wires did you get it installed at best buy?
im a geek squad auto tech and if the installer had to call the "MANUFACTURER" its because he didnt know what he was doing so id keep a close eye on that install we are suppose to be mecp certified which explains left, right, upside-down and backwards on how remote starts work and how to install them properly but there's been times when the managers hire someone as an installer that doesnt even know how to put a radio in a car or wat resistance is which is basic stuff so keep a close eye on that seriously if anything happens with it send me a message ill help ya out...
im a geek squad auto tech and you didnt have to buy a whole new system for a remote they sell those remotes on line that im sure you could have found for super cheap and if you show proof we did the install they'll typically program the remotes for you for free unless the installer is a !@#$ head so sorry to tell you but just got ripped off pretty hard....
I recently aquired an iomega ix2-200 and find myself victim of very unstable file permissions.
I changed the permissions on a whole directory tree (unsing NFS), and the day after they're back to some arbitrary permissions.
it seems the firmware has a process to recursively update files, which is untolerable.
Anybody knows how to prevent this from happening?
I already disabled all options that looked (even remotely) like a scan of the tree (search index, etc...)
I am interested in making this purchase and your review has been very helpful. I do have one question: Are you able to hook the UltraHD up to a standard TV to review the videos? I do not have a high-definition television and I am hesitant to purchase this camera if I am unable to connect it to the TV. I know that HDMI cords are available for HDTVs...what would someone in my case use? Please advise if you have any information.
